probably been discussed before, but cell phone
(kycera sanyo innuendo) somehow got wet, getting flaky, still flaky 24 hours later. Bought brown rice at krogers - raw - put phone in it, plan to take out tomorrow. Thoughts?

It works. My gf dropped her cell in some water. Overnight in a bag of rice brought it back to life.

didn't work for an iphone 4. internally it's fine except the screen is hosed. could be the screen could be the pcb, I'm not getting a new one to find out.

Depends on the water.

A typical puddle should be recoverable, a swimming pool will likely leave corrosive salt deposits all through.

SIL did this many years ago with an iphone 3GS. I used some instant rice in a little boat, in a toaster oven which I kept really low temperature and watched it so that it was like a warm car, not an oven.

My FIL used it for two years after at least.

Worked for me after a drop into water. Shut it down, take it apart, remove battery and put everything in the bowl of rice for 2 days. My screen had some splotches on it for a couple of days, but dried out eventually.

yes. my daughter's cell phone went to the bottom of the swimming pool. let the back off for a few days. phone worked fine after.

I have done the same to my iPhone5.

I believe it is of importance to leave it switched off.

I used loads of thpse littlw silica packets you get in shoes. God knows why i had kept them.

But still works fine a year or so later as my daughter uses it.

I dropped my phone in the lake off the dock. Got it back, pulled everything out (battery, sim card, etc...), put it in a tupperware container for three days with instant white rice. Put it back together and used it for another year.

Your mileage may vary...

Leave turned off, battery out, then in ziploc of Minute Rice on the dash of a hot vehicle for a couple days (or other hot zone). Worked for me X2 in the past. I think it has to be instant rice as it is more hygroscopic.

I've used a warm distilled water dunk on some items that were sloshing around in soda pop (don't ask, kids...). In that case I didn't have much to lose. As I remember the camera came back to life, the MP3 player came back but then died a little while later. Hey, they clean circuit boards in the assembly process. It depends on how well sealed the switches are (the MP3 player had a rotary control wheel that was obviously not sealed).

The other thing I do is wrap the device with a tissue before tucking it into bed in the rice. I figure it keeps any dust and whatnot out of the device, without impeding the drying process.

how about damp rid? just throwing out ideas.....I would think putting it in a shoe box with damp rid in there would work better than anything. Im not saying to submerge the phone in damp rid but to put it in the same close small tight area.
