All 3 of my vehicles in sig. Titan and Altima are running on PYB 5w30 with ST7317 filters. Mustang has 5w30 PYB with MC 400s filter. Tried synthetics in the Nissans, but I cannot take myself more than 7500 miles on syn. Tried PP, PU, Edge (gold), M1, etc. I just plan on changing all at 5K. My Titan went 9K on Edge Titanium with a Fram XG7317. Came out looking like old transmission fluid (reddish). Will cut the filter this weekend and post.

I am going to run all on PYB for 5K OCI. May try next OCI with QS green bottle. Little cheaper and seems to have good reviews here.

I one time got some QSGB and used it for a 8k run in a older civic I had. No problems with QSGB, use with confidence.

Forgot to add: All are 50/50 hwy/city. The mustang is going thru a cleaning stage. PYB for 3K then PU for 6K to get the gook out of the engine. I can run my finger under the fill hole to the top of the valve cover and get black soot. Was neglected before I bought her.

I am still old skool, 5K on dino maybe 7.5k on syn. Just me. O/M on Nissans say 3750 on Mineral oil (preferred), 7500 on light duty.

Is this related to the price of synthetic oil? Seeing as the dino oil is cheaper.

What's the reason for switching?

This is an entirely reasonable position. I don't think any of your applications are particularly difficult, and when I can buy a premium conventional like Chevron Supreme for $2.08+tx, I'm tempted myself. Nothing wrong with PYB. Carry on.

Sounds like a very acceptable plan to me. Nothing wrong with PYB at all. I have used it many times and will again when current stock is gone. I usually go about 4k between oil changes but that is because I like to change and do PM on the autos.

I am just being cost conscious aka cheap. PYB or QSGB will work for me at 5-6K OCI, vs syn. I have not seen any benefit to me running syn in my cars.

You are a wise man. Especially seeing that you are in FL. Syn isn't needed for your winter months. Good call.

deltona,
all three of your cars are not required to use synthetic. There is no real benefit of using it. The engine are design to run on dino oil.

use dino with confident. you can run 5k-7k on your nissan.

While I'm sure there are cases to be made for synthetic, for the majority of drivers and vehicles, a conventional oil will still provide all the needed benefits without the added costs.

Granted nearly all of my driving is highway, but I've used conventional oil my entire life and never had an oil related engine issue. I usually buy a brand name that's on sale when I'm ready to change the oil, and run it for 6 months regardless of the mileage. On occasion that's worked out to 7,000 miles or more on a conventional. None of my vehicles have ever used enough oil to get down to the fill mark on the dipstick between changes.

The one thing I don't get is the privilege of paying a high price for a synthetic oil that will do the very same thing as the conventional oil I've always used.

i think i will switch back to conventional oil as soon as my stash is used up.right now i have m1 0/20 in my santafe and vavoline white bottle in my sonata just to see for myself if there is any great difference.it is -6 below zero here this morning and they both started easily.i change at three to four thousand miles.i think iam wasting my money using synthetic.boy do i have a large stash of it.as soon as it is used up iam going to my local grage and get my oil changed there.at 66 years old iam getting tired and mussles get stiff getting on the cold ground.

I can't 'bring myself' to use syn in my vehicle.....when I got it, I swore I was gonna 'treat it right', all syn fluids....

But, I don't really like going long on the OCI, and the oil is easy to change in this vehicle, so it gets whatever conventional is on sale at 5-6k intervals, and that seems to work well.

There USED to be lots of sales on syns, but it seems like now there aren't many. Still decent number of sales on conventional oils, though - I can get a 4.4-5L jug of oil from Canadian Tire or Walmart when I need it for about $12-$16 on sale; and a base Motomaster filter for $6.

So, about $60/year for oil/filter changes (3 times/year).....I can't do an OC for $60 with a product that will last a full year (long-drain syn oil and filter).

Same here, I just couldn't bring myself to extend OCIs on synthetic without doing UOAs. My current commute is about 70/30 city/highway with lots of short trip during the weekend, all 100% city. It's just easier and cheaper for me to do 5k mile OCIs with dino bought on sale, which is hard to beat at $10 per 5L jug.

Seems like a plan, but as I mentioned on here before (although this wont affect you) The QSGB 5W30 only has a pour point of -30. I would like to hear from the guy`s/gals on here that use it in cold climates.

We use conventional in our CVPI's changed every 5K. I figure that since my truck does not see heavy service anymore, wife's altima sees short hauls, syn is not worth it. The new SN standard seems to address manufacturers longer OCI's and Maintenance Minder specs, that is good enough for me.
