Nissan QR25DE a sludger?

Last month, I changed my Titan and Wife's Altima to Pennzoil Platinum 5w30 and a ST7317, on the same day. I have 1500 and wife has 1100 as of today. I have a habit of checking the oil level on Saturdays. My Titan's oil still looks like bees honey. Wife's looks like Military Coffee (very black). She sees quite a few short trips (5 miles or less), mainly on weekends, doing grocery shopping, etc. My Titan sees longer trips, but much more idling.

Since we bought the vehicles, I have made sure that OCI's are 4-5K or every three months with mostly synthetic, but each has had dino here and there.

Is the 2.5 a sludger, or is the PP just doing a good job of cleaning. I am thinking of changing out her oil at 3K, but right now, it looks like a 7500 oil. I may just drain and fill next weekend (I know, may be a waste of good oil), but it is looking really nasty.

I have never heard of the QR to be a sludger. I'd say its probably the PP because many users here say the same thing about the oil. PP seems to do a very good job at cleaning

Engine oil always looks worse checked cold. What kind of engine oil did the Altima have previous to PP (most recent used)?

Both were checked cold this afternoon. Both had Mobil 1 previously. I guess the PP is cleaning like it should. I was just wondering if the 2.5 was not so easy on oil.

My situation is similar and I don't think you have any worries. I really have nothing to add but this:
My wife drives a 01 Lexus RX-300(a known sludger) and I drive an 04 Altima 2.5(non-sludger). I change the oil in both vehicles within a day of each other and use the same oil in both vehicles. The Lexus/sludger oil still looks quite clean after 6 mo and the Altima is coal black in 6 mo. Both cars see about the same mileage(varies/3-4000mi) in that time, give or take 100 mi... Since new, the Altima's oil has turned darker within weeks of the OCI and continued to darken til the next OCI where as the Lexus/sludger look like the oil can go further.

I am not aware of the 2.5 Altima being a sludger. Maybe a few rounds of PP back to back changes and see if that condition improves.

I plan on staying with PP, dump this one at 3K, then 6mo/6K with a P-1 or Wix after that. I guess the 4 banger works harder than the big V-8. Then again, one QR25DE and another one off the same line, one may be dirtier than the other. Many variables, I guess. I just wanted to know if it was a "sludger", but from what everyone is saying, it is not.

Although I don't beleive that the Altima 2.5 is a sludger, I have used a couple of OCI's of Pennzoil Platinum and Mobil 1 and the oil is still darkening after a few week and really black at the end of 3000 miles. I just think that this engine make the oil black, that's all!

Back in the early/middle '80's, I had a Honda and a Plymouth(both 4 cyl's/both carb'd). I used the same oil/filter brands and OCI's. The Honda stayed cleaner looking longer and the Plymouth was coal black by the end of the OCI. They are what they are!
