I am in the process of buying an '06 Beemer 330Ci convertible from my Sister. She just got a 2010 Infiniti G37 as a company car. She is selling it to me at a good price and has had all warranty/manual suggested service. It has 60K on it. Wife will be driving it and we are letting my daughter have the 07 Altima in a few months.

The Beemer will see some short trips (30%) and the rest highway miles.

I am thinking of running GC or M-1. Sister does not have the OM, but I am going to buy/get one online.

What say Ye?

About the oil, or the car?

For the oil, I would use GC. The only Mobil 1 available with the right ratings is the 0w-40, and I would prefer a thinner oil for the short trips.

For the car, enjoy it. It should be fun.

Manual or automatic?

The Car, of course. I have heard good things about GC, but wanted an opinion on it vs M-1.

It is an auto transmission. Wife will drive it like a marshmellow.. I am the one who will run the daylights out of it. She likes the bluetooth for the phone... I like it because it hauls [censored]. I will probably never get behind the wheel though, if she has her way.....

Contact BMW-USA, they should send you an Owner Manual free of charge. I lost the LS400 Owner Manual, I contacted Lexus and they send me a copy free of charge. Tell BMW-USA that you just bought the car and the previous owner doesn't have the manual.

You can download the Owners Manual from BMW USA -
Without I-Drive
2006 330i Owners manual

I would run either the BMW 5w30 from the dealer or GC and change it every 5000 miles with the short trips.
If it has only had the dealer service, it may have only had oil changes every 12-15,000 miles.

Yeah, My first car was a 1980 Datsun 310GX. POS, but it got me to school and back. Wife will enjoy the BMW. I ordered a new OM from the local BMW dealer and will have it in a few days. No Charge. Most OCI's were 10K or so with "mystery dealer oil", so I am leaning towards GC for 5K runs for a while.

I will be picking it up this weekend. Working on Title transfer, tags, etc.

Sis got it great, new car, paid for, no insurance or gas (employer pays it all) on the G ride. This job was less $$ per year, but has better bennies.

Thanks for the advice. I will post pics soon.

I use either. IIRC, the M1 shears to a thick 30 vs the GC. Or a thin 30? Eh, getting old......

Either one is good, and both BMW approved.

I know we're talking about oil here but isn't a "beemer" a BMW motorcycle? I believe "bimmer" is the correct term for your new 330ci

Which ever is easier to get, 5-30 BMW, GC 0-30, or Mobil 1 0w40. Every 7500, or there abouts, and the engine will outlast you. I've used them all in my 98 Dinan prepared M3 and have been very happy. 150K and counting.

You got me

. Just started wiring in the RADAR and video cams in our Agency's new 1200RTP Beemers. Deputies love them over the Road King Police bikes. That has been on my mind.
