i took the plunge. Bought some amsoil atf for my ford f150 that takes mercon v. i'm having my transmission guy swap it out on friday. i'll update then...

later............

I stopped at the local oil change place and asked about a T-tec on an F-150 and was told that they use a standard non Mercon V transmission fluid and pour in an additive. At lease he admitted that it was not mercon V.

So I asked if they would put in my trans oil if I brought it in. He said he could not, because they get theirs out of a drum. I said well, I could just pour it into a bucket for you then. He agreed to do that at half the price.

I could either bring in some Amsoil and do that, or just go to the Ford dealer. I have on 01 Screw. At $7 a quart I would neeed about 15 quarts I suppose. That's $100 in fluid, and $40 for the T-Tec. Heck, at that rate I might as well get a new $4 bucket at HD.

Yep this stuff is steep i paid 7.35 for a grand total of 118 with tax. I'm lucky my transmission guy is a customer of mine so that part is free.

Yes, I learned about this place on the 150 boards, and that is where I met my good friend msparks.

So, did you get your fluid swapped out ok?

I had the dealer drop the pan on mine today. They said they got 12 quarts replaced, but I just don't see how they could have done that with only dropping the pan.

yep I got it all replaced. We pulled the pan and drained the torque converter then flushed the cooler and lines. I replaced the filter and filled with 13 quarts. We also replaced the rear diff oil w/ amsoin 75-140 and a bottle of ford friction modifier. I'm tellin you "smooth as glass" shifts nice, I notice a little less vibration over all also. Cost me a fortune but I think it will pan out.
