Weird issue with new glasses? Can I return these?

My doctor rechecked my prescription and long store short, she said I just needed to get used to them. 🙄 I just went next store and returned them, I'm not getting used to that bs. I'm afraid it's going to throw off my whole equilibrium and won't even be able to walk straight anymore. My balance isn't very good anyways. I feel like I got off an amusement park ride after 5 minutes of wearing them.

hey thanks for the update.. too bad that the doc was too lazy to try and figure out the problem even if the prescription was "perfect" it wasn't.. reminds me of you go get a wheel alignment (4-wheel, of course) and the car pulls hard to one side and after you complain the tech tells you to "Get used to it".. that's crazy. Hope you can eventually find an eye doc that IS decent and willing to put in the time to get you what you need.. Then you can rest your eyes from the contacts all the time. Hang in there, there are decent eye docs out there just like you can find good auto techs too, just gotta be patient.. sucks but true..

I'll just go to a real eye doctor whenever the time comes that I need glasses. Not one of these walmart people. I'll just keep trucking along with contacts like I've been doing for 20 years.

I picked up my first pairs of glasses today at Costco. I'm 47 and while my vision is still pretty OK I definitely have some issues with fine print and my right eye is pretty blurry compared to the left. Primary care doc sent me to an ophthalmologist to get them checked out. Left with prescriptions for I guess what you'd call normal glasses and a pair for use when working at the desk/computer. Both progressive types. Anyway both pairs have a weird distortion issue where it seems the magnification or whatever it's called on the left side is greater than the right, resulting in things that are square or rectangular turning into trapezoids. Costco seems quite willing to work it out but I think the first stop is with the doc who wrote the prescription? They're out until next Tuesday naturally. A quick search suggests this is a common issue. Thoughts?

We already have several replies on this. Half the people say you have to get used to it, while the other half say it's not normal. I felt sick for the rest of the day anytime I wore mine more than 5 minutes, so I brought them back

The one issue I've known about is opthalmologists are not that good at prescriptions for glasses. You'd think because they're the "Medical Doctor" they'd know more, but they know diseases of the eye. The optometrist is the one who can really tweak the prescription to make it perfect. Since the MD didn't see any real medical issues then maybe let the optometrist (OD, is their designation) see if the MD missed something. I'm talking the OD at costco.

The distortions you're having, some people just can't get used to progressives. They gradually change power from far vision (up top) to mid-distance (middle) to reading glasses/magification (bottom). I remember my mom couldn't stand bobbing her head up and down trying to find a good spot to see. She went with regular no-line bi-focals, where you have the reading part at a designated area at the bottom and yes you can specify where you want it on the lens! The other optical distortions you're seeing can be other issues like we were talking about earlier in this thread of base curves (the front curvature of lens on glasses), add in progressive and I can see where you're getting all sort of odd results.

best bet is to talk to the costco OD and tell them everything you've told us and mention base curves possible issues. They'll probably do their own exam and work with you to get it right.
