Weird filter media

No, nobody in my family has ever had a filter issue in the winter here up in the GWN. The second filter in your pic is a Champion Labs E-Core. Sold under the Supertech (Walmart) and ACDelco brands over here (along with others I'm sure).

Got my Toyota 90915-03005 filter today from ebay. Paid around $12 total. Bought it just out of curiosity. Hope it is foam type. I'll post pictures little later. It looks very old, box says Lexus, box is old, worn and little torn, says made in Japan. Still has original clear film that covers "holes" side. Compared it to original size filter and oversize P1. This one in between, bigger than stock size, but smaller than oversize p1. Will cut open after use, but not sure when I'll use it. Oversize P1 will go for winter OCI to hold can of MoS2 and some Kreen in addition to 5 qt. of oil.

Hello from past. I took a closer look inside--looks like it is paper media

If you want this kind of filter, I have some (90915-20004 - Japanese original here replaced by 90915-YZZD3) and can sell one for 14 including shipping.

I am using these on my Toyota Sienna. 90915-YZDD1 is specified for this 1MZFE engine. But 90915-20004 and 90915-YZDD3 are longer filters with the same diameter&thread.

Do you accept paypal? I'll probably get one to try.

I notice they have no metal end caps and no metal center tube. I use the 90915-10004 on my Toyota 1.5l and have a new case of ten in the garage. last couple changes went to the Toyota usa sold Thai denso made filter. As far as what the car sounds like there isn't any difference. They are a very well made filter, haven't seen anything better finished. The element looks a lot like expanding poly foam but I know it is not the same thing. I bought them from McGeorge toyota when they were 7.99, plus 10 shipping so I stocked up to lower the per piece shipping. I don't see them selling anymore. The TRD looks like a great alternative for about $10.

Maybe they don't have the production capacity in Japan to make these for sale aftermarket, if they did even at $8-12, they would sell well.

They have the capacity but Toyota must have decided that Thailand-made filters are better suited to US market. They should offer both at least in order to give people a choice.

When we first purchaced our new '01 Lexus RX-300, it used these Denso filters. I was buying these filters from the Lexus dealear and then tried the Toyota dealer as it was closer to where I live.

After each use, I cut open every filter that I purchaced and noticed that only the Lexus filter had the media shown in the pictures above and the filters from the Toyota dealer had pleated paper/celulose media(as in most other filters) although both were the same part number.
