Never seen "foamy" media before. It is Toyota filter,Also

There is also lots of pictures of filters uncut and cut open, that you wont see in US or Canada. 74 page thread,so click thru to find pics.
Also a question mostly to Canadians: do you guys happen to have bursted filter gasket and oil light come up on cold start in - 30 C winters? Or it's just [censored] china filters and or fake filters.
more pics are here http://www.oil-club.ru/forum/topic/3-masljanie-filtri/

+1 This used to be a common toyota OEM filter. I don't know how easy they are to get anymore but just a different style.

Yep, the OEM Asian foam filters with pics have been posted here several times. First time I've noticed the flat spring bypass design on other than a Purolator though.

The one on the right looks like an ecore variant, but with a silicone adbv and separate bypass built into the retainer spring, rather than a combo valve.

No to any filter problems whatsoever. And to the oil light issue, no. It comes on as usual and goes out as usual when pressure rises. It might take a tiny bit longer, but nothing serious. And, I've used 5w-30 to below -40 C, too.

The foamy looking filter should be a Denso made filter, for original factory installation, not aftermarket or OEM parts use.

Well, it seems that comrades in Russia have oil light come on for up to 8 sec (mostly up to 3 sec) in cold winters, with 5w also. Are those foamy filters good?

For the time, well, it seems to depend on the vehicle and the viscosity. I've never really timed the light, but in -40 C, I've never had the oil light stay on longer in a cold start than when, say, I change the oil in my F-150 and the filter is filling as the oil pressure comes up. The longest I probably ever had was possibly somewhere in the eight second neighbourhood, and that would have been in around -40 C years ago in my LTD, with a sideways mounted filter with no ADBV.

Those foamy filters are reputed to be good. Their Densos, and they tend to make good filters. Good luck finding one, though. ARCOgraphite looked pretty extensively for them, if I recall correctly, and I did some checking without any luck, either. The normal Denso is easy to find, at least in the States. The factory original Denso is another matter.

As cool as I think those filters are, there are more than enough quality filters readily available and at a reasonable price.

Yeah, my older yaris and rav LOVED LOVED the OEM toyota japan 90915-10003 or 10004 foam media. Looks like an Home heating oil strainer

The vvti never seemed to work right on anything else. I think some older lexus will spec the japan filter vs the thailand denso. You might be able to get them at a Lexus parts window (does lexus even have a parts window? How gauche!

Easy. Go to a Toyota lot at 3:00 AM. Bring your filter wrench.

Seriously, I tried finding them, too. No luck. But that one cam on my truck and somewhere on this forum I have pictures of it cut open. I don't know what the eficiency rating is, but it seems like grit would never make it through that hard foam.

I do not understand Russian, but this doesn't look very positive

Yes. ARCO and I went on our wild goose chases after we saw your pics, if I recall correctly.

I said, that I got confused between FRAM TG and EG, and I actually meant that EG worth money spent on it,not TG

I believe this means "Oops, I meant FRAM Extended Guard are regarded as good."

When Toyota dropped that filter (media went from that to a very expensive pleated paper) downunder for the same part number, I went to Purolator.
