Weber Grills - Price Controled By Weber?

Pretty much. If you advertise to sell for less, they pull your dealer status. They are worth every penny though. I tried others to save $$, but ended up buying what I should have in the first place, and haven't looked back.

Just checked with a workmate who bought a big stainless Weber BBQ down here.

Saved 10% by shopping around, so Weber don't fix prices in Oz (obviously, as they are still in business down here)

It's just a manufacturer making sure the retailers don't go into price wars and dilute the brand. Nothing illegal or unusual about it.

With that said, Weber grills do go on sale, but not huge sale, and maybe not as often as some other grills. Last year I bought their Spirit E-310 grill for $440, when normally it is $499.

Sadly, all of their lower-end grills are now made in China, including this Spirit grill, but the quality is still decent and works well. Can't really comment on reliability/longevity as I've only had it for a year and it is my first Weber.

That is, all of their lower-end GAS grills. So if you're still a real man cooking on real fire, you're still cooking on a real american weber.

Real men have better things to do than sit around and wait for charcoals to reach their proper grilling state and then have to deal with the ash cleanup.

I bought furniture that was "price controlled" made by Nichols & Stone. The furniture store sold it to me at the "controlled price" but then sent me a rebate check a month or so latter.

Sadly oldest US furniture maker now out of business.

Onward MFG Company distributes Sterling, Broil-King, Broil-Mate and Weber. I looked at the Weber but they seemed too pricey. So I bought a Canadian made Broil-Mate 44K BTU's. The oven is a beefy cast aluminum so it should hold out well.

You gas guys just don't get it, that's the whole experience of charcoal grilling, it's like making love, for you gas guys it's wham bam thank you mam, but for the charcoal guys it's the Foreplay, the setup, getting your woman ready, hot and bothered, same with setting up the grille and charcoal, then when she's really ready the love making begins, this is when the meat hits the grille and things really get hot and the juices flow and the smoke rolls out of the top you can almost taste it. then the climax, the meat is seared to a rich dark color with juices oooozing from little nooks and crannnie, and when you take that first bite, your taste buds explode with the smokey flavor and tenderness of the meat. You stick with your gas Pete because real men cook with charcoal

Whatever turns you on, Malo.

Sounds a lot like what Burton does to snowboard pricing.

We've got a regular Weber kettle that I use more than the Sunbeam propane grill. I was looking at a $300 Weber Perfomer charcoal grill at the Depot. I can understand up to $100 for one. But $300 is insanity.

Growing up as a kid, all we ever had were the Weber charcoal kettle grills, my parents are still using the exact same ones that we cooked on all those years ago. The line of Weber gas grills is also solid. Sure the brand is expensive compared to others, but very much worth it.

To me, summer just isn't summer without some Johnsonville brats cooking on the Weber and a cold brew in hand. I could give a [censored] about price fixing, most Weber grills will last a lifetime if maintained properly.

I purchased a cheapo grill at Walmart for under $10. It rusted out in a year, so I bought another one which also rusted out in a year. I then bought a Weber for under $30 which has lasted 7 years so far, and still works great. I can still buy a spare grill for it if it ever rusts out.

Crisppy burned Johnsonville Beer brats on a toasted french roll with real spicy mustard Mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

Once you guys get tired of cooking over gas or mixed coal and chared wood (that's what charcoal briquets are made of), and decide to leave the Dark Side and move up to real charcoal and wood, look up the supreme BBQ grill and smoker, The Big Green Egg. It lights fast, is economical in the use of fuel, and cooks or smokes everything at whatever temperature range you select.

I know I sound like a commercial, but I've tried just about every other type of grill out there from the gas ones, water smokers, converted 55 gal drums and even 550 gallon drums. Nothing wrong with Weber, but I gave mine away once I got the BGE.

I'd like a big clay tandoor to grill on!

I used a BGE for a couple years, I liked it, but it is way too small. Other than the price and the size, it is a great grill/oven.

I'm pretty sure the majority of manufacturers, especially name brands, at least have recommended retail price that retailers are not supposed to undercut. It's just to create consistency in the brand and not lead to a price war as others have mentioned. You can get Weber grills online that vary more in price. I got mine online for a pretty good deal, but there aren't many 'sales.' And Walmart does carry some models for cheaper than home depot. I guess to sell at Walmart you have to bend on your price a bit.

Me too, I bought mine online and save about 25-30%.
