Since a regular jug of syn is hovering around the $50 mark at regular price, if M1AP ever makes it up here, perhaps $79-99? Royal Purple is pushing close to $70 so $79-99 for the M1AP is very much a possibility.

Was at Walmart yesterday. The shelves where the syn jugs are are near empty. There were a handful of QSUD 5W-30 and a couple jugs of VSP 0W-20. The conventional jugs were plentiful though. Now if Mobil is looking for suckers who will pay a premium for oil, perhaps they can ship some up here and see what happens.

Yeah, I certainly wouldn't pay that much for a jug of oil, and I'm more of a gearhead than most people I know.

For roughly the same price ($10/qt) you could buy Redline.

Or I can buy M1EP on sale for $22 and run it 15k then run some $5 peak dino the last 5k.

But then you have to get your hands dirty and do work twice!

"Mobil1 Annual Protection: For the lazy consumer"

Or use M1EP 4 times, so it's a total of 60k for $88 or $150 for 60k. So there's one extra oil change in there but it saves you $62. If you factor in the $12 rebate, it's even cheaper.

How do you know that it is?

No one knows for certain the composition of any specific grade or variety of Mobil 1, but a reading of the tea leaves of the MSDS shows a majority PAO for most grades at least here in the US.

Which by the way, carry fewer specifications than the apparently Group III Visom 0W-40 product in Europe.

The real question here is, who's first.

The new M1 stuff is more than I pay for Red Line and if you check my UOA you can see that it is working well.

With the typical 20% Walmart rollback, which Meijer will match on shelf prices, combined with store deals and the MIR, I suspect I'll have a couple of jugs of this stuff for less than five bucks a quart by the end of the spring M1 MIR.
Have yet to see AP at Meijer, but we will.

Yea, I wouldn't do extra oil changes to save $7 each...

I dont do extended oci due to my 2007 toyota sienna developing vvti clacking after doing 9k oci on pp which is widely accepted as safe. Grinning like crazy while resettng the oci button at 4500mles and waiting for the next one. No recourse once the engine started clacking. Many of those 2grfe engnes do this but i cant help thinking the extended oci aggrivated it. Engine had 130k miles. Traded it in.

Now i do 5k. Oci with valvaline syn. Overkill yes but if this engine starts clacking, I KNOW its not the oil.

As i get older i steer towards disposable stuff instead of long term. Had the same choice in sofas, Buy a 3k set that will last 4-5years or pony up and buy an 10k set that is supposed to last 15 years........ Hmmmm... And if it doesnt, warranty is up in 5.

Nice story! If the price for PU on the WMT site is for real, it looks like I'll be changing my story. Sorry Pennzoil, PU is not worth what WMT is asking for it on their site.

Yep ... they dropped the price on EP and did the stupid price on AP ...
... and since the gold cap went to AP ... I could tell it was fresh with my glasses off ... ! );

Oh I hear ya. I have a nice stash of PUP, and I'm hoping WMT comes to their pricing senses before I need more, but I'm beginning to give up hope. lol If they don't it might be "later" Pennzoil. I wish XOM would meet the Chrysler MS6395 spec across their product line. It would make life easier for me. I have a warranty to contend with and I don't want to run Super. Time will tell.

I think ExxonMobil blew the marketing of this oil. They've essentially said "This oil will last 20,000 miles or one year, whichever comes first. What's special about it? Trust us. Oh, and it's nose-bleed expensive."

If they want to market it to BITOG, they need to tell us WHY it's special (what group base oils are used, and what the additive pack is), and put its price point with other 15-20k mile oils (Amsoil for example).

Castrol, Red Line, and a whole bunch of other oil manufacturers can put together a 20,000 mile 1 year oil for a lot less than $10/quart (in 5 quart jugs). Look for this market to split wide open in a few months and for the prices to settle in the $30-$40 per 5 quart jug range.

That ship sailed with the kick off of GF-5 years ago. Most of the competition smoothly transitioned w/o delay meeting the MS6395 spec except XOM. Sour grapes with Pennzoil, and its still carrying over. Remember the 2 year excuse? LOL They had plennnnnnnnnnnty of time to complete the testing, they chose only to do it for Super. Granted it is an easy spec to meet, as we Bitoger's know, but just saying...........

1000's of folks take the cheap oil change at quick lubes ... plenty Mobil Super used at our "Mobil 1" quick lube ... but not a big mover at WM. Folks shopping cheap are grabbing ST ...

Exactly, and there lies the reason why M1 Annual Protection is more than likely to flop at WMT. WMT the vast majority of WMT customers want cheap.
