Wd40 or silicone:which is a better all purpose lub

WD-40 for household use...
I don't think there really is an "all-purpose" lube. For example, silicone spray is good for window tracks, but I wouldn't use WD40 for that. And WD40 is good for spraying on mildly rusty bolts to help loosen them up, while silicone is not really good at that. Etc.
WD 40 isn't a lubricant.
Too many choices to give a quick answer. Metal to metal, metal to plastic, plastic to plastic. Plus think of all the other material choices out there.

My favorite lubricant is Tri-Flow. It says it has Teflon in it, but I don't know that for sure, all I know is that it works really well.
I really like the Dupont Multi-Use Teflon lubricant. It's great for motorcycle chains. Dupont Multi-Use

It was designed as a water dispersant hence "WD" Its great for the company if you use it as a lubricant, because you will have to keep using it and buying it as it evaporates. IT is great for things that get wet that should'nt ie pocket knives it the wash etc.
I use lithium spray grease in my door locks.

and so is 3 in 1 oil

I was informed the other day that WD-40 mixed with powder residue in a firearm makes a wonderful grease to lube the action on a M1 Garand and a M1 Carbine.

WD-40 has VERY limited uses when it comes to lubing anything.
But then I'm getting old and am learning daily just how little I actually know, either from knowledge or experience.

I like wd-40 for lubing some things, guns, hinges,etc. silicone is a no-no in our shop because we paint sometimes, PB blaster is the greatest penetrating oil known to man
