Wd40 or silicone:which is a better all purpose lub

Ya WD40 isn't something I'd use to lubricate anything.

I would spray to loosen something up, then clean and apply a proper lube.

3-1 Oil and Silicon do wonders. I have also used DuPont Teflon Dry Film Lubricant. Seems to work well on stuff like key locks & hinges.

If you have decent guns, then don't lube them with wd 40! its okay to wipe down the outside or sometimes use it to clean them. But apply a lubricant such as rem oil or breakfree clp afterwards. the wd-40 will clean but is not heavy enough to really lube a guns slide or internal parts.

Of course WD40 is a lube.
But it is really thin. Usually needs frequent application.
They recognize this and offer a heavier, more substantial version.

Silicone lube is great for certain things, but is by no means a general purpose lube. And most silicone sprays have very little silicone.
Just enough to let them say so on the label.

We need different tools and different lubes.

you are right about the silicone!!! i have bought several types for spraying on door gaskets and the gaskets on my avalanche bed cover seals, dries away very quick!
Any one know the best thing for door seals that will stay there a while?

I rotate sauces for my door seals and exterior rubber.
Sure, I will use spray silicone, but often interior rubber/plastic cleaner/conditioner. Like Armor All and the many others like it.

Vaseline can attack rubber. It will work great for a short while.

Sil-Glyde

Is Sli-Glyde equivalent to Honda's Shin-Etsu grease?

Shin-Etsu Grease:
Genuine Factory Honda shin-etsu grease, for lubricating rubber door seals. Apply sparingly, a little goes a long way.
3.52 Ounce tube.

Sil-Glyde:
Extra Film Strength Lubricant, Effective On Rubber, Metal, Wood, Glass & Plastic, Lubricates, Prevents Sticking & Freezing, Won't Wash Out, Freeze, Gum Or Melt, Protects Weatherstripping, Prevents Battery Terminal Corrosion

They're probably awfully close, if not identical. I apply the Sil-Glyde using a shoe polish applicator sponge. It's easy to scrub in a nice thin coat. I've yet to have any trouble getting a door open, despite the worst of winter conditions, since I started using it. It even reduced the wind and road noise passing through the door gaskets, thanks to making them more pliable.
