Whip compares the new and old Mobil 1 filters. US made vs South Korea.

Looks like Mobil made the right choice changing manufacturers. Much better and cleaner construction. Much more media as well. I’m very happy Walmart has a good option as I know many like a one stop shop for oil and filters. I do wish the efficiency was a bit better and price lower.

This specific new Mobil 1 had a stamped leaf spring instead of a coil spring. Wasn't there a new M1 posted before that had a coil spring like the PGI style filters? Could be some new M1s have a leaf spring and some a coil spring. At least the bypass valve is built into the end cap so no leaf spring to end cap seal to be concerned about.

Yes my C&P had a coil spring in a Vietnam M1 filter.

Wild idea but the NG Mobil having more media might mean slightly more holding capacity. Just shows how awful the M+H filter is next to these South Korean beauties.

I sent him that USA made Mobil 1. Kind of glad I didn't use it on my truck. That glue was sloppy. I bought that filter September/October last year before I joined on here and wasn't aware of the glue issues on the M&H filters. Wish they were better made since they are made in my state.

But, I will stick to the South Korean made M1 filters or Carquest Premiums for now.

Thanks for sending it to Whip!

Mobil still says it's an up to 20,000 mile oil filter, so maybe they decided it needed some more media to really meet that. Maybe the M+H version wasn't really up to that task, even though Mobil advertised the M+H version to also be a 20K mile filter.

Different companies have different knowledge & they're similar but not exact as we see here in these two examples. Efficiencies may be the same, as previously implied, but this whole change out is probably not going to want to completely copy the other company. That could look real bad & then courts.. ha!

There aren’t any patents on how much media area can be put into an oil filter. That was my focus wrt the holding capacity and up to mileage rating comment.

Highline Warren told me that they had the new Mobil filter built to Mobil's specs. That's why the efficiency is still 99% @ 30u. If HW bumped the total media area up quite a bit over the M+H version as seen in the WCW video, then it could have been to meet the 20K requirement put on the filter. It might also result in less dP vs flow.

Perhaps able to "Buy more" of a filter with HW set-up than previously (Same $ invested gets a better built filter)(to get a "buffer" or not we may never know). These new filters seem to certainly be worth the change. The old Mobil cans were getting pretty sloppy.
