Washer fluid won't spray

95 Taurus I don't use the spray much but it won't pump any out. Fluid is full. It seemed to work a bit -on and off- a month ago, but she wouldn't work at all this week. I use to hear a noise I guess calling for the fluid but I don't hear anything.

Any thoughts?

Can you access the pump?
YOu might have a bad pump or a blown fuse.

I don't know where the pump is. Either one of those though is it? If the pump is shot, is it difficult for a DIY'er?

I don't know on a Taurus. My Grand Prix pump was out in the open, with a plug on top. Twist it (I think), and it came off. I would first check your owner's manual, or online at a Taurus website for a fuse diagram and see. If you ran it dry, or ran it frozen, you could have blown a fuse or blown the pump.

Another thought

Pop the hood. Have someone stand where the fluid is poured in, and then hit the sprayer. If they can hear a noise, it might be a clogged nozzle. If you have washed or waxed, it might get clogged. I know my prelude's did. I had to use a toothpick to clean them out.

if its cold the fluid might freeze if you dont use a type that does not freeze. had this happen on my ranger one year that I had. you can take a small needle and go down the nozzles. I would also ck the fuse and the pump. if your not hearing anything from your pump.

Is the pump something a pretty green DIY'er can do?

You'll know after you go to the U-Pull-It junkyard to get a replacement.

I'm thinking it would be pretty easy once you get to the tank. Looks like a rubber grommet in the tank somewhere, the pump in the grommet, and the washer hose connecting to the other side of the pump. But, if the tank is located in the fenderwell, like on most Ford's, getting to the tank is the problem.

Fixing the problem is easy once it's diagnosed. It's just a matter of bracketing the problem. Start by unplugging the washer hose near the tank and operate the system. If nothing comes out, then you know the problem is in the tank. Check for 12v at the connection to the motor, and so forth, until you've narrowed the problem down to one component.

Common problems are:
- blockage from contaminants
- bad washer motor
- frozen fluid
