Washer Fluid price increase at Walmart

What product has lower margins and takes up more shelf space and costs more to ship than washer fluid? Still a deal for $4/gallon.
Wal-Mart distilled water. .88 per gallon. The 88 cents gallon of distilled water at Wal-mart just might be the best deal they have.

In my neck of the woods, the standard blue washer fluid was hard to find at Walmarts since the beginning of winter. Stockpiled 6-months worth in December. Next beer is on me.

the next nail that might hit the coffin is diesel exhaust emissions fluid.

If you own a diesel and don't have a multi-month reserve, make one. now. Better safe than sorry. Especially as the newer diesel engines are bricks without any DEF.

It's already gone up from $7 and change to $10 and change at Walmart. You may be right about buying some extra here.

Anyone here with a swimming pool ? - my chemical costs have doubled - and we don’t have a heated pool so it goes through chemicals when not in use too …
My chemical costs doubled around two years ago. Boom, just out of the blue one summer it went up enormously. I guess chlorine was way ahead of the pandemic and inflation.:ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:

Aren't you supposed to save the containers and fill it up at a truck stop? They have pumps for it and it's cheaper than buying the containers.

BBB method. Look it up - I nursed and maintained a swimming pool back to health with this method. Unless you’re buying 10-12% “pool chlorinator” that’s just stronger bleach or HTH(or any brand of dry calcium hypochlorite), “dry” pool chlorine is dichlor/trichlor, stabilized chlorine, mostly from China these days.
That makes sense, washer fluid is a low cost product that takes a lot of space and weight on a truck. However, the empty holes on the shelves at Walmart are especially noticeable these days!
I’ve been using washer concentrate - either Einszett or 303 tabs and distilled water from the store - a carboy filled with DI water from Whole Foods or the local hippie co-op would be much better for washer fluid or coolant solute use.

It is not in the US news but there were shortages in other countries, Australia and Korea...because of plant shutdowns in east Asia.

How many people realize that their post-2016ish diesel engine will literally be bricked if the DEF tank is empty (because of an electronic emissions kill switch).

Don't get me started on swimming pools! I fired two service companies that wanted to raise my CYA levels to 100 ppm "because it's Florida".
Finally found somebody that understood phosphate levels (Pinch-A-Penny) and BAM, chlorine demand is normal again! 1 tablet, maybe two is good for two weeks holding chlorine level at optimum. 40 ppm CYA.

Don't forget about the chemical plant fire that supposedly took out chlorine tablet production. The fire really happened, but the price increase was false. Never had an issue with supply or price here.

When I'm on the road all I use is truck stop def, I hate the containers for space and waste reasons. I always keep one in the garage though.

2 for 7$ to 4.50 each in NE ohio for the good -30f to -35f stuff

that -20f blue water freezes to window when its 20f out and you are moving.

Basically that -20F stuff is less than 1/3 methanol and the rest is water so it's the water that's freezing to the window after the alcohol evaporates. The -30 to -35 just has more methanol and less water.

It almost seems silly to highlight the price increase of any one product. It would be easier to point to the items that haven't gone up in price, however, I don't think there is anything in that category...the price of their Super Tech motor oil has gone up too, but not nearly as much as the washer fluid...

I haven’t heard of that, but not shocked if supply shortages are due to having to import dichlor/trichlor from China as a contingency. A former PPG subsidiary and Olin(yes, that Olin who makes Winchester ammo) make a majority of the US supply of cal hypo(the HTH brand is owned by a private equity firm). KIK and Univar make a majority of the North American liquid bleach(sodium hypochlorite) supply. Supposedly Clorox makes their own bleach or has one of the main bleach producers supply them with a ultra-high purity product. They have a huge plant outside of their Oakland, CA headquarters.

That's a somewhat cynical view of things. The rotisserie chicken at Costco is still $4.99 along with the $1.50 hot dog.

Just remember, no matter how cynical you get, you just can't keep up.
