My Tacoma uses the 90915-yzzd1 filter as the stock filter. Which Toyota OEM oil filter would be the correct one for a oversize? Got to figure out a way to use up these half qts of oil that are accumulating.

---Make-------Stock------Oversize
Amsoil--------EAO57------EAO34
Fram----------PH3614-----PH3600
K&N-----------HP-1002----HP-2009

Napa----------1348-------1516
PureOne-------PL10241----PL20195
Purolator-----L10241-----L20195

The longer Toyota OEM filter that I use is "90915-YZZD3" Ive moved on to Napa 1516 and monstrous 1515, next I'm using an EA034.

It's a 3/4-16 thread filter. Assuming you have some latitude on the gasket size (2.8/2.4 vs 2.4/2.1) ..TONS of options.

"Which Toyota OEM oil filter would be the correct one for a oversize?"

OEM? you are likely out of luck.
Any quality aftermarket filter, like those listed above will do fine. There are no warrantee issues with aftermarket filters or oil.

Assuming that the filter doesn't fail.

So let's say that in the rare event that the filter is defective and kills your engine, will the filter manufacturer pay for the damages if the filter was not recommended for your application?

Okay i did some research, I think it will be easier for others to advice me...yes Gary the thread size is 3/4-16.

So, which of these filters will I be able to use for my car.
Please TELL :)

Longest Filters
Cummins/Fleetguard LF3334
Cummins/Fleetguard LF781
WIX 51512
FRAM PH3639
Donaldson P554408

I do know that WIX and Donaldson has very good filtering media...i do not know about others....I did be SOO eager to use "Cummins/Fleetguard LF3334" but do not know anything about its filtering capabilities or the type of filter media they use...

Thanks

Oh god! I made few mistakes both in pasting and in my research, mixed the Gaskets ID and OD up..so sorry!

All the filters below have 3/4-16 thread size and at most the Gasket OD is +or- 0.2 OEM (All values in inches)

OEM Gasket OD is 2.475 for WIX and 2.46 Donaldson

Length of each filter is mentioned in the bracket

Looking back only oil filters would be an option would be

Donaldson
P550971-288-140 (3.87)
P550078 (4.92)
P502019 (3.54) (Currently Using)

Baldwin
B37 (3.5)

Cummins/Fleetguard
LF3615 (3.46)

WIX
51396 (3.4)

Luber Finer
PH561 (4.44)

*****************************************

Baldwin B295 (5.84)*
Fleetguard LF3334 (6.43)*
*(NOT SURE because Gaskets OD not Given)

Since the above two filters are the longest I did a cross reference to be sure about them.....this is what I found.

Cross reference check with WIX and got
WIX 51512 (5.842)

It's Gaskets OD is 2.734!

so I guess Baldwin and Fleetguard will be way to wide as well

BUT If anyone has used these filters in Corolla 04 succesfully do let me know PLEASE :)
****************************************************

Hence I have decided to buy P550078 as it is the longest filter I could find which also has the most similar value to OEM's Gasket's OD (2.47in).

Please correct me as this research I did for Corolla 04

EAO10 GM Vehicles (99-05), Geo (89-92), Toyota (88-08), Various SLUBE 3.402(L) 2.685 (D)3⁄4-16 Attached 2.475 (OD) 2.173 (ID) .233

Try running some of these numbers in various xref's. I only included those that match your gasket size. I think that you'll find that many of the xref'd numbers will show their counterparts with larger gaskets ..that fall more in line with the 2.7/8 OD 2.4 ID gasket size. If that's the case, then I'd expect that those filters are perfectly acceptable for us. The filter manufacturer recommends them for that application.

Thanks Gary, you made a good point...and it has been a source of frustration for me!

Donaldson P550078
is the longest filter I could find whose Gasket's OD mathes OEM as per the info provided in the link below

https://dynamic.donaldson.com/webc/WebStore/search/item_detail.html?section=10157&item=11821

but when I did a Cross-Reference check at WIX, the WIX filter which showed up had larger OD for Gasket. So I then decided to do a cross-ref check at Baldwin and Fleetguard, none of them provided Gaskets OD.

I am not gonna buy unless I am sure the Gaskets OD is in close proximity to OEM, so I took the part numbers off the Baldwin and Fleetguard and did a cross-ref at WIX website again, well the WIX filters which showed up had larger Gasket's OD than OEM's part.

The difference is huge more than +.3 inches, I think it is not worth taking risk or spoiling my cars filter inlet.

I am looking forward to buy Donaldson P550078.
So Gary, what Amsoil filter will be equivalent to my preferred filter?

Thank You

HOLY! Good NEWS!

Just got an email from my friend saying that the largest OIL Filter which fits Corolla and which he himself is currently using it is made by WIX. Length (5.824)

Part Number
51346

he also said that he is inclined to try Baldwin BT353 next time...as the specs seems to be similar to WIX 51346 but he is not sure as of yet if it will work....

I guess...this is enough for the day!

The EaO57 is the match for the 550078. It's the small one. I use that on my wife's Jeep due to the heat exchanger being on there.

If you're worried about the gasket, go out and buy a cheap PH3600/FL400S for $3+/- and see how it matches up. I think you'll find the mounting surface more than adequate to fit it.

I think a Toyota owner or two that are using other filters will chime in.

In most cases, yes. YMMV. I always cross check all unknown numbers through WIX. If there's some special bypass setting need, they usually conform to it. Most filters are generic as far as bypass valve settings. Most Wix are 8-11 ..most Purolators are 12-16

tell me guys which are better values when it comes to filtering!

Baldwin BT353
20 PSI High Pressure By-Pass Valve
18 nominal with an absolute 40 micron rating

WIX 51346
16 PSI High Pressure By-Pass Valve
19 nominal

So does anybody knows the Absolute Micron Rating for WIX filters?
I am trying to figure out which is a better filter!

Thanks!

... do you really need a 6" long filter on a 4 banger? I understand going as long as possible ... but wow.

If you want the best filtering, go with a PureONE. The beta ratio is very good (smokes WIX), and Purolators are not expensive.

Thanks SuperBusa, Purolator PureOne is not easily available where I live and I have checked it, they do not have a similar filter for WIX 51346/Baldwin BT353 in PureOne!

I did love to use PureOne, heard only good things about it!

So SuperBusa, do u know by any chance the Absolute Micron Rating for WIX filters?

Go here - Wix site:
http://www.wixfilters.com/productinformation/gff_oilfilters.html

Quote from link:
"Particle size retention (filtration efficiency)Particle size retention is the measure of the degree to which the filter can retain particles of various sizes. Wix has developed optimum particle size retention quality in filter media by extensive engine wear tests including exhaustive testing of filters used in racing, and sophisticated laboratory tests. Wix media in the automotive full-flow oil filter is able to trap and hold essentially all the contaminant particles larger than 25 microns."

Here's the filter for my car ... it says the normal filtration is 19 microns on that one, so some might be a little better than 25 microns.
http://www.wixfilters.com/filterlookup/PartDetail.asp?Part=51356

On a side note, WIX actually talks about their filter flow resistance ... unlike Purolator. Amazing.

"Resistance to oil flow WIX full-flow oil filters for automotive applications use arch-pleated, prescription-blended media. When new, the media with a maximized number of pleats has less than 2 psi pressure drop when filtering oil at a rate of 4 g.p.m. at normal operating temperature. This low initial restriction to oil flow protects the vital engine parts more effectively."
