The only reason to buy any Super Tech oil is because just it’s cheaper. Within a dollar of Mobil 1? Dust catcher. It will be priced down where it belongs very soon.

But your explanation doesn't work, because the Supertech products with 4 or more stars cost LESS, than the Euro version.
That is why I am calling out the absurdity of their star ratings.
Speaking of dusty shelves, Mobil 1 0W8 was being cleared out at my local WM.

Probably true. I once had a beat up VW I used going to school. I graduated, got a good job and tried to give it away free in the local Trader paper. No takers. Put a $100 price on it and sold it in 1/2 day. Still got frequent calls 3 weeks later. Important marketing lesson learned.
Apparently according to the extreme temperature protection, all of the lines from the full synthetic to the advanced full synthetic high mileage are only rated mediocre across the board with only two stars. Now on to the part where they reduce engine wear and extend engine life, as the tier of oil and probably price increase the rating for stars increases well. If they all scored poorly on extreme temperature protection how in the world are they going to reduce engine wear and extend engine life? I think the rating system on the back of this bottle and any other bottle like it is terrible. I'm also going to take a stab at this and admit that I think this label is generic and slapped on every bottle whether it's a really really thick oil or one of the new thin ones. I think marketing just came up with an idea to keep it simple stupid and put happy faces or little stars on the back because they didn't want anything too complicated for the customer.

Yes...they eventually lowered those initial high prices (raised when W-H bought out Warren) considerably.... most likely due to lack of sales.
I'm betting the same happens with this 0w40.
I'll make a guess. Walmart did volume deals based on the most popular viscosities, and just took the standard pricing on Warren's other viscosities because they weren't high volume sales oils. Now GM made them high volume and Walmart has to do new deals for those.
I saw 5qt. jugs of Supertech 0w-40 on the shelf at my local Walmart, $26.98! I can buy Mobil1 for less. Really, come on Walmart I know you want to be like Rodeo drive now but this is not good. I am thinking of leaning toward getting oil from the auto parts stores when they have the jug and filter specials.
Maybe they are both the same oil, the only way to find out is a VOA of both oils. Then again, a VOA has certain limitations, there is also the SDS of both oils, but that has its limitations.
