The only reason to buy any Super Tech oil is because just it’s cheaper. Within a dollar of Mobil 1? Dust catcher. It will be priced down where it belongs very soon.
The star rating stuff is crap. all it really does it upsell the more expensive stuff and tell people in caveman terms that more expensive = more betterBut under Supertech's own rating system, it only garners 2 starts out of 5. LOL
But your explanation doesn't work, because the Supertech products with 4 or more stars cost LESS, than the Euro version. The star rating stuff is crap. all it really does it upsell the more expensive stuff and tell people in caveman terms that more expensive = more better
Probably true. I once had a beat up VW I used going to school. I graduated, got a good job and tried to give it away free in the local Trader paper. No takers. Put a $100 price on it and sold it in 1/2 day. Still got frequent calls 3 weeks later. Important marketing lesson learned.Do you know that to be true?
I ask because we hear such things all the time.
EX: I was told nobody selected white Corvettes in '53. So, in '54 Chevy charged more for white and people paid it!
Don't get me wrong, I love ironic instances but I can't repeat them if I don't know they're true.
Apparently according to the extreme temperature protection, all of the lines from the full synthetic to the advanced full synthetic high mileage are only rated mediocre across the board with only two stars. Now on to the part where they reduce engine wear and extend engine life, as the tier of oil and probably price increase the rating for stars increases well. If they all scored poorly on extreme temperature protection how in the world are they going to reduce engine wear and extend engine life? I think the rating system on the back of this bottle and any other bottle like it is terrible. I'm also going to take a stab at this and admit that I think this label is generic and slapped on every bottle whether it's a really really thick oil or one of the new thin ones. I think marketing just came up with an idea to keep it simple stupid and put happy faces or little stars on the back because they didn't want anything too complicated for the customer. But under Supertech's own rating system, it only garners 2 starts out of 5. LOL

They cleared it out at our local walmart too. I think most people are using heavier grades on newer toyotas, like me.Speaking of dusty shelves, Mobil 1 0W8 was being cleared out at my local WM.
I don't think many of the cars that use it are on DIY maintenance yet or are hitting the WM oil change bays.
Yes...they eventually lowered those initial high prices (raised when W-H bought out Warren) considerably.... most likely due to lack of sales.Didn’t they try that same as the name brand price strategy before and fail?
I'll make a guess. Walmart did volume deals based on the most popular viscosities, and just took the standard pricing on Warren's other viscosities because they weren't high volume sales oils. Now GM made them high volume and Walmart has to do new deals for those.i think 0w40 is the only exception for supertech's usual lower price
Maybe they are both the same oil, the only way to find out is a VOA of both oils. Then again, a VOA has certain limitations, there is also the SDS of both oils, but that has its limitations.I was disappointed to see how Supertech is now priced compared to its competitors. While at Walmart the other day, I noticed they had the 0W-40 5-quart jug of Supertech on the shelf—priced within just $0.50 of Mobil 1 Euro 0W-40. At that point, I just don’t see how it will sell well when it's nearly the same price as a well-known premium brand. Historically, Supertech has always been $5 to $7 cheaper per jug, which made it a solid value choice. That price gap was a big part of its appeal, and without it, I’m not sure it stands out anymore...
