I recently bought some of the Super Tech 5W30 oil from a Walmart online special. I got reading the reviews and several people said they didn't like it, it made their engines louder and they were going back to a name brand quality oil, get what you pay for Lad de da...
I never heard anything bad on here about it. I thought it was a good budget oil. Looked it up on Petroleum oil site and the admix looks very similar to Valvoline. Iam a short oil change interval guy. I just don't put a lot of miles on my vehicles. If I change oil every 6 months, its sometimes less than 3000 miles. I thought it would be fine for the "Spare" vehicles that basically just sit and get used occasionally.
Anybody have any bad experiences with this oil?

No bad experience it's good oil. It meets API SN. Your only problem was reading reviews on Walmart website, which is not a credible source of information (most of the time)

never have any issues RE: wally's Supertech oil (or oil filters).

In fact: used them frequently on my clientele's machines, works as expected.

Q.

I imagine some people might tend to belive the ST oil is in some way inferior, just because it is the WM house brand.

Put the same oil in a Valvolene bottle, and the noise would go away.

Yep - it's decent oil. A few members here have run extended oil change intervals (one was unintentional I believe) and it seemed to hold up just fine!

I used to use it about 10 years ago when it first came out on company truck oil changes. They wanted the cheapest oil out there to save money. No problems with it back then. Trucks sounded fine, didn't use oil etc.. That was a while ago though. Thanks.

Nothing wrong with ST oil and I would not hesitate to use the conventional for 5K. The only reason I don't is I still have an oil stash that was even cheaper from a sale. It's always been my go to oil when I'm in between oil deals.

Its made by Warren who also makes Peak oil and some others....fine oil.I can see why people don't trust Wal Mart, but they didn't cheap out with this stuff. They took the safe route.

I'm always skeptical when people say they can hear a difference in their engine from using different oils.

I'm not a fan of it from several uses.
Especially their conventional oil.
Nothing against Wally World.
Shop smartly without rebates and you can get world class oil for a few $$$ more on a 5QT jug.

I'd use it in a pinch though.

My sons 96 Corolla has over 220K miles on it. When WM is out of VML 10W30 he uses STHM 10W40 oil. He has never complained about it.

To start with, most folk here never use any one oil long enough to really have an opinion based on longevity and performance. Why not use ST for 200K with long OCIs and report back to us?

A post that leaves me dangling...
Okay, why are you not a fan of it? You said you have nothing against WM, so that is out. Was it the wrong color of bottle? Did your shopping cart have a wobbly wheel? Did the check-out lady turn down your advances?
Or...did your engine seize up and die?
(Not a fan or hater of WM oil when I can get TropArtic and Peak at reasonable prices, I just had to ask)

One of my brothers has been using it in all his vehicles for years, and all he says is oil is oil I don't care. He does have five vehicles to service. ST 5w30 5 quarts is $9.57 right now on Walmart's website. Pretty dang good if you are going there anyway to get some groceries or what ever.
