Walmart out of filters?

Wow, I just hopped on Walmart's website. Accord is due for an oil change. They have no Supertech or Fram filters in stock. It cost me $21~ to do an oil change, lol. Welp, I guess I will be going to an auto parts store and have to pull my pants down to get an oil change kit.
If you can’t access Amazon orRockauto.

Man, where have you been?
First Brands/FRAM/Champion Labs is out of business. When the current stock of FRAM and Super Tech filters are gone, that's it. Walmart will have to find another supplier for their Super Tech filters. There are plenty of threads on this matter. You should also see a diminishing stock of Trico and Anco wiper blades in other parts stores.
Where have I been???. Obviously not Walmart for a while. Jeeeeeeez Louis!
I wonder what their auto shop is doing? if no filters
The dude came to the isle when I was there. Said they are now using Purolators and another jobber type brand. I forget the name. He was grabbing a Mobil 1 filter for a job. Said 7 out of 10 jobs they are using mobil 1 because their supply is not good. Mobil 1 are way more than the normal jobber filters they use as you know.

I bet they bring in Purolator like meijer
Ive been gettin some Purolators on Amazon for a good deal. Just got to wait as the prices change all the time pending the filter #. Got some Ones and Techs for under $4. Free ship! Just bought a Tech today because I was looking due to the Walmart issue.
Works for me. Im good with a basic filter. Sad that SuperTech is no more. Hopefully it gets brought back.

You've been a member since 2022. You can do better than that.
Ive been reading about oil lately. Not browsing filters. Im changing my friends oil now that normally uses a 0w-20. Thinking about ESP 0W-30. But decided to use the Valvoline Restore and Protect 0w-20. Thats going to be ran for a while. Big decisions. Must research! So thats where my time has been spent. But now im back to filters. Learned some stuff on bypass pressure today! Stay tuned!

Easy to armchair quarterback what Walmart should have done. To be fair, while First Brands did declare bankruptcy in September 2025, it was a Chapter 11 reorganization type and not necessarily a rush to liquidation like a Chapter 7. FRAM and Champion did not stop production until February 2026. So it has only been two months and not seven months. A company like Walmart cannot even begin to negotiate short and long lead replacement suppliers until their current ones are in breach of contract or have dissolved as a going concern.
Its literally the purchasing managers job for that department to stay on top of supply. There a retailer - they have many suppliers, there likely is nothing other than a price agreement and blanket order, not a contract like in manufacturing. Presumably they could have purchased more of the OEM filters they stock, or more from M&H - all suppliers already set up, rather than wait till there out.

The purchasing manager for that department - either has been fired, will be fired, or better plan on never being promoted at this point.

Like I said, it hurts Walmart most. Customer will go elsewhere, possibly to never buy another filter there.

$21 for Supertech at Walmart vs $29 for an auto parts store brand bundle. How will you ever financially recover from this?

Step 1 - head to Walmart and buy usual oil of choice.

Step 2 - on the way home, stop by an Advance Auto Parts for a Carquest Premium filter. Alternatively, O’Reilly Auto has the MicroGuard Select filter, same manufacturer.

Step 3 - enjoy having a far superior quality filter than any of the Fram garbage.

Step 4 - perform oil change and keep on keeping on.

More like the reality is "Oh cool, oil filters are back in stock" and they get one since they are back in the store buying their Kitty Litter and Grandma's foot cream.

Once you lose a sales its gone forever.

The only way the scarcity tactic works is if you raise the price later. Maybe? Thats typically Amazon's business model.

To sort of add to this with the first brands supply issues, I am a mobile technician. We work on a lot of semi/ heavy truck class 7 and 8 but also a lot of smaller vehicles that take an ac Delco PF63. The new 6.6 duramax and also the 6.6 v8 gas both use this filter. I bought 4 the other week from one of the largest suppliers of ac Delco parts HUGE warehouse as one of their major brands they even sell ac Delco batteries mainly even group 31.

So I went to buy 4 of the pf63 filters up here and joked with the guy and told him I knew they'd have a lot of them! Local part stores would have one or two or be out of stock with no idea. They had 400 plus pf63A filters back then! I had to actually buy the pf63A filter due to zero availability on the PF63 blue painted filter. The PF63A is black, and the flutes are different on the top so my oil filter cap wrench doesn't fit (and a few other differences).

This week, went to buy more and there were zero. A place bought hundreds from them lol!

I had to special order 10 PF63A from a two hour drive away, it's a regular parts transfer they do daily so no freight/ shipping charges occurred.

Someone with first brands manufacturered the ac Delco oil filter line originally.

champion has produced the ac delco filters for a long time. there have been photos of new ac delco filters that are of premium guard roots. step in the right direction IMO. i gave up on fram/champion a while ago.
