Walmart needs to sell the OE Honda filters unboxed like the dealer does

Maybe it'll cut down on degenerates that swap the boxes :sneaky:

Several OE Honda boxes had Super Tech cartridges in them. The ST Cartridges were wire-backed, but I don't remember what part numbers they were.

Surprisingly, that aisle doesn't have cameras in it.

Visible cameras. There aren't many blind spots in the Blue Box joint.

Problem is - they don't stop better than 99% of shoplifters. Until you hit a certain amount of thefts (cumulative) they typically let you walk out. They'll nab someone once in a while to make a point, but LP policy in most states is to let it ride on single or cheap items. Kinda sad - if I owned a business I'd have the darn doors on autolock nowadays. Price tag switching IS a bigger deal to them, but it's still not their focus.

I've yet to come across a swapped out box. I check the ones I buy (because of this site) and I am not standing there checking boxes, if I worked at Mart, that would make me want to follow you around...

And the moral here is, low lifes will be low lifes. I think WM selling Honda OEM in a box on the shelf the right idea. Cello wrapped alone works for the dealer because they are kept behind the parts counter. Box or no box if someone wants to steal badly enough, they'll do it. If it was to become that bad an issue, I imagine WM just stop selling it. I doubt they sell all that many anyway.

$20 says nobody in the store has any clue how to review the camera footage anyway......

There was a reason the general store keeper kept everything behind the counter.
While in Walmart, I see more and more employees pushing carts and filling orders (either online or customer waiting in parking lot).
I would imagine Walmart likes that because it reduces theft.
Similar to a shopkeeper from the 1800's.

Edit: In those old general stores, people were always grabbing apples from the barrel and not paying.
Looks like people don't really change.

All the Honda filters would be dented from being knocked on the floor? As it is it’s open season on oil filters in the filter aisle.
Plastic clamshells would be good like they put so many other things in. The welded seam almost indestructible clamshells.

At the auto parts store I work at we sell Honda OEM filters too. They don’t come in a box, just the clear plastic wrap. I feel like they don’t get damaged any more or less often than ones in boxes really. Not like the super thin boxes give any protection anyway. I inspect every filter at the counter before I sell it and will occasionally find damaged, used, or misboxed filters, box or not. The most annoying thing about the Honda filters is we can’t stack them because they don’t have the box.

I don't know big the AP store, but I'm thinking generally the foot traffic AP store much less than WM. And have a bit more control of the of customer monitoring and habits. Your point about being able to stack them on shelves for WM space purposes, likely a main factor in using a box. Iirc, when I last checked AAP for the Honda OEM, they too used same as dealer cello wrap. 'I can't recall' WM selling any OF as stand alone, ever. Subaru OEM at WM, same deal. And Toyota Denso is boxed, afaik same as dealer. So, likely a WM requirement to the vendors that they be boxed. I don't really see boxed vs not being a big factor in theft.

You have to be a real low life to resort to this. Of course, this is second only to replacing virgin motor oil with various liquids and returning the jugs to the store for a refund. There should be a special karma coming for those people.

The used oil in a motor oil jug happened to me at one Wal Mart near my work. Wal Mart let me pick and open another jug of oil. I was happy but now I try to buy my oil at Rural King or online.

Walmart tries to make returns easy (customer service).

Walmart sells millions of sku's and hires the lowest paid staff, many of whom likely wouldn't have a job at all if not for walmart. Part of their overall low cost approach. They probably wouldn't know if the oil was new or used if they opened the jug.

It sucks that people take advantage of this by scamming walmart, but I have trouble blaming them for it. This is a societal issue.

They shouldn't be taking any opened oil back. If the cap seal is broken or tampered with, returns should be denied. I think most Walmarts operate like that these days after being burned too often by scammers.
