+1!

Wal-Mart Canada carried over 70% Canadian content for a while - but, the people weren't satisfied still! So then the chinese junk came in...

Well, at one time WM had 100% US made clothing. They promoted it ..advertised it ..then one day ..no more US made clothing. I recall the uproar. It was answered with an apology for not dispelling the assumption.

So, you come in with a rah-rah ..flag waving parade ..and after you've suckered the masses into some false sense of security ..you saw the legs out from under them.

It's not an uncommon model these days.

Wal-mart uses their "power", i.e. the sheer quantity of stuff they buy, to force prices to where they want them to be.

No company wants to loose their contract, or loose their major sales outlet - but at the same time, the businesses are not in business out of the good of their hearts - they still need to make a proper amount of money too. So? they offshore and/or reduce the quality of their products.

Thus we get lead-laced children's toys, and air pumps that pop and cut my toe (as happened the other weekend). Just wonderful.

So Best Buy, Circuit City (formerly), Target, Costco, Amazon, RC Willey and other retailers that sell the same Chinese imports get a pass?

OMG! Do you hear yourself? One rationalization after another to allow behaviors that are brutal.

WM will go into a smaller company. Give them a contract for 3X their capacity. Fine and good. Owner retools with a 5 year ROI. WM, after the contract is up, now says they're not paying the same $1/widgit ..and now it's only $0.80/widgit. The small business owner, your alleged hero, is now enslaved just to pay his bills.

WM ends up being the majority share partner.

P'wn'd ..or maybe it should be P'WM'D

I need a shock collar button to push when someone uses "got a link".

Here's some honesty for you....I dislike Wal-mart because of several reasons. Merchandise is usually lower portion of a particular product line, the service the employees provide is poor at best, the employees also look like slobs, the people that shop there have a higher low-life factor and make me feel uncomfortable, and the check-out lines are terribly slow. But the truth is I still shop there when I need to get certain products at usually lower prices. I hate it, I can't wait to get out of it, but I STILL SHOP THERE!
As a side note several years ago I was laid-off from a major aerospace company and as such I applied to work at Wal-mart as a receiving clerk. The pay they offered WAS LESS THAN what I was making on unemployment. I stayed unemployed.

Yep, let's tell Mola, Bruce, Tom, Doug, Johnny and other pros to go pound sand. White papers and technical journals? Waste of bandwidth...

Facts? Who needs them!

Gary, this is a choice that the supplier has to make. If he was trying to enter a market by lowering his price, it is up to him to do so. If he rely only on Walmart for his sales, then it is expected that he would lose out big time when Walmart pull the rug he stood on.

There are many suppliers who refused Walmart's prices and the last time I checked, Walmart is not yet a monopoly. Not until Target, Bestbuy, Home Depot, Office Depot, Sears, Lowes, and all the other box stores are out of businesses.

Just think, if every consumer is only looking for prices, why would we still have Mobil1 in Walmart when there is SuperTech Synthetic?

Why would someone expect another to pull the rug out from under them? This is the "Band of Angles" carpetbagger defense.

Watch the movie. It will give you tremendous insight into the souls of some men.

They must have been a band of obtuse angles...

Or maybe ancient, Germanic immigrants to Britain who founded the kingdoms of Northumbria(made up of Bernicia and Deira), East Anglia, and Mercia... whose name was twisted somewhat to become the name of the largest 'nation' of the UK?

According to some, they were an obtuse bunch.

The way you describe employees at WM, slobs, low life, etc. is very insulting to a lot of people. My wife worked there for a short time, 1 1/2 years, and is none of those things, nor where her fellow employees.
