Since 159 of them are in the US, that's what 3/state on average?
Bad if you work there and don't get placed in a nearby store. Not bad if you are a competitor.

Lots of those are in Brazil and Latin America
The stores that are closing in the U.S. are the 'WalMart Express' stores.... that are the smaller WM's(about 150 or so in the U.S.)
They will be opening 100's of larger stores is cities and towns that don't have a larger store nearby.

W/M just opened a new express store just down the road from me.

I have 2 Walmart Supercenters within 3.5 miles of me, another about 5 miles, 2 more less than 10 miles, and they are building one 1/2 a mile from my house. Plus they are about to open a Walmart Express about 6 miles from me.
Lots of growth around me though.

Walmart does nothing but lose money in the Northeast, they simply have stores up here for market presence.

Surprised Kmart had not declared bankruptcy yet.
I have a WalMart Supercenter nearby, an older WalMart a little further away, 2 fairly new WalMarts just a little further, and a Neighbors WalMart. Like that isn't enough WalMarts.

One of our Costco Stores now got one of the newer WalMart store right next to it and now they just opened an Applebees at the entrance to the Costco. That Costco parking has gone mad.

The one they are closing in Austin Texas is a somewhat upscale area, pretty close to the lake. I think they didn't like the property taxes and the restrictions from city of Austin.
There are some downright DUMPY walmarts in the suburbs that are staying open.
I see all these threads on here about people getting real deals on oil and other items at walmart, but I never find any deals on anything. Everything is priced "just" right, there is no cheap oil to be found, but they are priced a little lower than the auto parts store.
Also I do not like Walmart's food at all. Meat never looks good, produce never looks good, and nothing is priced properly. All the meat is prepackaged nonsense.

The Walmart by me appears to have resumed 24 hour operation. I sure wouldn't want to work for them. Though their workforce appears diverse.. it is not if you look at key areas.
