Here are the contents of the email I sent to my circle when I read the News.
Esther would have been Devastated! Inconsolable!
How many hours of my married life did I spend waiting for her shopping Fabric, Patterns & Stuff?
My late wife was an avid and talented seamstress.
She had many ribbons won at the county fair, culminating in one Runner Up Best of Show!
I fondly remember waking up on Drop Off Day, at 6AM, hearing her trusty Viking machine, humming away in the sewing room. Knowing she had pulled an all-nighter. I was drafted to hand deliver her submissions, with very specific instructions, while she slept. More ribbons.
Esther designed and sewed her Wedding Gown. A good story by itself.
Design? As it has been more than 40 years I would not even guess how much time and effort went into her design.
Details? Fabrics, Laces, Beads, Threads - Lions and Tigers and Bears - Oh My!
Pattern Design and Drafting? Seemingly endless!
Sew Time! Several days, no distractions.
First try-on. Tears!
Let's just say that she was not at all satisfied with the result.
I recall clearly her standing at the end of the hall, natural sunlight, the look of dejection on her face mixed with the tears.
What now?
It's good to have a talented and creative family!
Off to my aunt's house where over several days my aunt, cousin and sweetie took the gown apart and put it back together.
Mission Accomplished!
