Anyone notice this while fueling at WalMart. I only fuel there since I have some credit built up on a giftcard. After swiping the card, it says do I want to use their additive and save 7 cents per gallon. Im assuming that price is after you pay whatever they want for the additive, I didnt hang around long enough to realize what was going on, so I just hit no and had to hear the spill over their speaker about not hitting yes. So, I wonder how many they will dupe into paying extra since I was enticed to hit yes to save 7 cents/gallon, so I figure others will think they are getting a deal.

I didnt really want their additive anyways add that [censored] business venture to the fact they use 10% ethanol and I will stick to Shell after I use up my giftcard.

Anyone else gas up at WM and noticed this new annoying system they have in place. I believe it was called 'add-tech', but didnt hang around to read up on it as there was a line forming. I just hate spam and now have to deal with it gassing at WM like I did when SuperStop had their seymore rewards, gladly they arent around anymore. Marketing just seems to take over everything.

If this is such a major issue with you, use your gift cart to buy a pair of pants and a shirt and gas up elsewhere.

Why would anyone willing shop somewhere nd then complain about what they are willing purchasing or their experience there. Especially a gas station when they seem to be on almost every corner anyway.

Just seems more than a little ridiculous to me.

I believe it is called Addi-tech and it is marketed as a fuel system treatment. I have been to the same style pumps and if memory served me right, it is like $2 or $2.50 for the additive. I believe that is deceptive marketing practice by saying you can save 7 cents per gallon by getting the additive.

Wow, one born every minute. The Wal-mart empire rages on... Ignorant consumerism is becoming the new American way

This isn't exclusive to Wal-Mart. I first encountered this same type of marketing at Kroger Stores in Tennessee in 2007. (If you used your Kroger card when purchasing groceries or services, you accumulated a certain percentage of the money you spent as gas credits. When you re-fueled at their gas stations co-located with their stores, you received a discounted price on gas once you got past the spiel on Addi-
Tech.)

Every minute? More like every second. Now clam up and fork over that $50 for the nitrogen you need in your tires. It will improve your mileage, encourage world peace, and cure erectile dysfunction (in tree frogs...not tested or endorsed by the FDA).

:)

I presume we'll see a population boom among the tree frogs soon. . . .

I had to deal with something like this at a local Chevron. They have a TV or computer flat screen above the pumps, and they toss some spiel at you the entire time you're gassing up. I paid no attention to what it was selling or hyping. You couldn't turn it off.

That was the last time I went to that Chevron. For all I know they all have this stuff now.

I agree. WM will have a hard time proving that every car using this additive will save 7 cents/gal if that is indeed what they are directly claiming.

I was at a WM gas station in Pensacola and the pump had a screen where you can select how much additive you want in the gasoline.

Press one for scummy dirty fuel that only low life illiterates would use.

Press two for tightwads that are penny wise and pound foolish.

Press three if you're a reasonably responsible car owner and want to maintain it to minimum standards of more common working class types

Press for if you consider yourself a person of distinction and insist on the very best that money can buy.

I've never seen this.

Are they selling you a bottle of fuel additive mixed into the gas? Or do you get the same gas, then go to the counter and pick up a bottle of their cleaner?

Or, are they selling ethanol fuel for cheaper than non ethanol fuel?

Honestly guys, if you have a regular car.. Just buy gas at the place that moves the most amount of gasoline. This is usually a walmart/costco or place like this.

The mom and pop gas station isn't selling as much gas, and the tanks are more likely to be contaminated.

mjoeking, I too would have my spidey senses start tingling if I was blindsided by such a request. My gut reaction would be to say no, since any time a merchant goes out of their way to push a product, you can bet they thay stand to make a handsome profit from something that has only marginal worth.

I'll bet they really said it can save you up to 7¢ per gallon. Rather clever marketing on their part.

My thanks to bubbatime for giving the only technical answer on this thread.
