Check engine light on, scanned a P0420 on my toyota truck. Recently happened when I started filling up with questionable gas (the one with horror stories - but its cheaper!) Will the light clear itself if I start running it with top-tier gas or should I just clear it out manually?

Join the club . Clear it and see if it comes back if it does that's guna suck
For my wife's Ody, a new downstream O2 sensor took care of it. Some people claim using lacquer thinner in the gas tank will work, as recommended by Scotty Kilmer: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5icTmYItwiE

Your catalytic converter is dying. Disconnect the battery and take it for a nice drive

At the very least, clean the sensors with electronics cleaner, clear the code, and reinstall them.

Its the programming. Toyotas are set to throw a P0420 CEL at 95% efficiency. Means the cats basically still good. Will still pass emissions. Clearing the code wont do anything other than make you feel good for a while. The answer is clean the cat, replace the cat, or fool the cat.
