Nearly 50% of electricity in the EU comes from clean energy sources.
Today's "clean energy" is tomorrow's "environmental horror. Up here windmills are now the devil's work. They "kill birds" and cause global warming. How they do that was never fully explained. The chemicals which are required to make solar cells aren't exactly chicken soup either. It wasn't that long ago natural gas was a clean fuel, now the weenies are outraged it's used to make that "clean" electricity.

Yeah, I think it's troubling that anyone is "delighted" by something like this. There are a lot of people suffering within Volkswagen right now, who had nothing to do with this. I imagine there are job losses suffered at the corporate level, and there's a lot of uncertainty at the dealership level as well.

Not to mention all the poor folks who bought one! Porsche, Audi, etc. are all involved, too.

And the UN is a bad joke we need to get out of our country...
Everything they are outraged about turns into a bill sent to the US which we must pay for forgiveness. Meanwhile the Chinese keep cranking out coal fired power plants and claim they are a "developing" nation. '16 can't come soon enough.

The OP's second link is the only thing that even hints at what this person was actually saying when she used the word "delighted:"

Quote:
Figueres was referring to Volkswagen’s plan to stop making diesel cars and focus on plug-in hybrids and electric vehicles

That suggests she's happy about what VW is doing about the scandal, not about the scandal itself.

Hey, worry about "the sheep" all you want. Just remember about the log in your own eye and all that.

I guess I did not read it that way:

Quote:
“What is their corporate strategy? We are going to scrap diesel...and we’re moving to electric vehicles.

You're right, I'm not sure is she is quoting VW, or interjecting her own thoughts. I could not find a source for her article. I just thought it preposterous to scrap diesel, not with today's needs.

Fair enough. Did not think of the EU. But moving even a small amount of energy needs from non-renewable to the electric grid is going to overload the electric grid, renewable or not.

Cars mostly get recharged in the evening/night when air conditioners aren't running nearly as much. Not a problem for the foreseeable future. Gives us time to build nuclear and more renewables with storage.

Gibbering leftys want to turn our government over to these brain dead ideologues. If your lies to the sheep don't work in a democracy, turn the government over to the "UN".
It is called the new woeld order. coming to the U.S maybe by the next election

And all the careless, Gadsden waiving dopes are rolling coal, polluting more than all the VW clean diesel's in the state - with ONE DOGER or FORD 3/4 ton.
And don't get me going with all you 5' midgets riding H-D with straight pipes blowing out my eardrums.

Obnoxious Troglodytes!

Nope. The NIMBY and BANANA idiots will not permit nuclear power. It is a dead issue.

France and Nuclear power

I have always been a fan a Nuclear power. Having spent 11 years on submarines I know a lot about it and feel safe with it. Unfortunately a lot of folks are scared of it because they don't understand it or some countries have not operated plants properly, had poor designs or have built them in spots they shold not have.

Back to the rest of the thread.

Actually China leads the world in renewable energy production. Of course they are also building some coal and natural gas plants, we are as well. Bottom line is they are converting to renewables at a much faster rate than the U.S. is. Don't believe everything you hear on your "news" station.
