VW is ending the manual for the GTI.

I've heard that the reason manuals are derated is because people who don't know how to drive one will smoke the clutch, and if you tune it to have less torque they can't smoke the clutch as good.

The problem with this car is the clutch is too weak. The GTI power level is the same for both gearboxes, but it's derated on the Golf R manual because of the power level. Most stage 1 tunes take a GTI beyond stock Golf R power levels and if you don't do a lower torque target tune, the clutch tends to develop slip issues so an upgraded clutch is a must for modified cars.

In before this is blamed by MEJs on 1) Americans not wanting manuals 2) something related to folks not knowing how to drive manuals....oppps we get more manuals (R) than the supposed bastion of manual elitism Europe and this is actually their fault. Too late! 🤣🤣🤣
