You apply the brakes just like in a regular driving situation. I've been using one-pedal driving on my EVs since 2019. I haven't crashed into anything yet. What happens in an emergency braking situation?

In an emergency you want full braking, not regen. By not covering your brake pedal your reaction time to get on the brake pedal is increased.
Phew. You apply the brakes just like in a regular driving situation. I've been using one-pedal driving on my EVs since 2019. I haven't crashed into anything yet.
Regen braking can be pretty strong, and my car is equipped with an Automatic Emergency Braking system designed to detect imminent collisions and brake autonomously to reduce the severity of an impact. Of course it will also flash dynamic brake lights to warn drivers behind me.Phew.
So there is a brake pedal. Scared me for a second.
Nonsense. You obviously have no professional training.Nonsense. Retain a reasonable buffer to the vehicle in front and you won't have that issue. An EV with one-pedal drive begins decelerating as soon as the accelerator pedal is released. That means anytime you're not coasting or speeding up, you're automatically decelerating. If anything, that makes emergency stops safer, because the vehicle slows as soon as you identify the need to slow, before you actively transition to braking.
Shots fired.Nonsense. You obviously have no professional training.
One that doesn’t do one pedal driving.Shots fired.
Which EV do you drive?
Sounds like some deficient German designed vehicle. I heard they hate their customers. They do things like bury filters in hot vee engines and put timing chains next to firewalls so the engine comes out for a chain swap. Then they removed rear window switches and forced their customers to use both pedals when driving electric. Sorry to hear about your one-pedal travails. But your at least you're keeping that right leg active! One that doesn’t do one pedal driving.
I do have professional training and I think you're failing to make a connection based on the assumption of the mechanics of coming off of the accelerator to apply brakes instead of experience in doing so with one pedal driving.Nonsense. You obviously have no professional training.
It’s got nothing to do with that. What do you do at an uncontrolled intersection? You cover your brake pedal, in case you need to stop in a hurry. Same with stale green light. Same with innumerable other occasions. You always cover your brake pedal when unsure. Can’t do that in a Tesla without slowing down. Having your foot over the brake pedal reduces reaction time.I do have professional training and I think you're failing to make a connection based on the assumption of the mechanics of coming off of the accelerator to apply brakes instead of experience in doing so with one pedal driving.
It's more of an old habit that is hard to die from ICE vehicles.
You do the same by backing off the pedal in that situation which is already slowing the car. If you have to accelerate, you are already on the pedal. It’s got nothing to do with that. It’s not the same. Your foot is not covering the brake. It’s .75 seconds to go from gas to brake. In an emergency that time could save lives. You do the same by backing off the pedal in that situation which is already slowing the car. If you have to accelerate, you are already on the pedal.
Regardless, the driver needs to pay attention and act accordingly.
absolute rubbish - the brake pedal is still there and I use it when I need to stop faster than the regen allows. One pedal driving is trading safety for convenience.
I don't cover my brake pedal in a gas car either. I have eyes, there is no point. If I need to stop, I stop. No difference in practice. In an emergency you want full braking, not regen. By not covering your brake pedal your reaction time to get on the brake pedal is increased.
Lol. You are a grandpa driver insisting on this "covering the brake". I really don't want to get behind you. It’s not the same. Your foot is not covering the brake. It’s .75 seconds to go from gas to brake. In an emergency that time could save lives.
In my place of employment there used to be sign that said something to the effect of “Drivers, you are now entering the most dangerous place in the world, the public highway. They meant people like you being the danger. And its absolutely true.Lol. You are a grandpa driver insisting on this "covering the brake". I really don't want to get behind you.
The car is already slowing when you take your foot off the accelerator in an EV. In practice I am slowing sooner.
Nonsense, use your eyes and brain to anticipate situations. And if you're not able to do that, you're following too **** close. In my place of employment there used to be sign that said something to the effect of “Drivers, you are now entering the most dangerous place in the world, the public highway. Informing others of a safer way of doing things is never pointless.Nonsense, use your eyes and brain to anticipate situations. And if you're not able to do that, you're following too **** close.
MODS: Please close this thread, it has devolved into a "holier than thou" who's better at driving discussion. POINTLESS.
