Few questions as coolant changes isn't something I've frequented and my education on such matters isn't great.

Our Volvo had a new cambelt including water pump in 2021 and currently there is red/pink coolant in there. I suspect this is a generic OAT or Dexclone.

The Volvo left the factory with a green HOAT which I believe is 'G46'.

Is a Dexclone likely to cause any issues in a system designed for G46? Would you change it or leave it in? Bare in mind I was planning on leaving the cambelt for another 3 years.

And if you did decide to change it, how would you go about it? We live in a very soft water area so would a number of drain & fills with tap water suffice and then add concentrate to the correct ratio once the system is totally clear? Or would you strictly stick with deionised water?

never run tap water in a engine. Use battery water or destilled water same thing
There’s reasons why the Europeans preferred phosphate-free coolants, it was to deal with their hard water. Phosphates provide quick passivation of aluminum and ferrous metals. But they’re also good at chelating minerals, which was also why old phosphated cleaners cleaned so well - soaps work best with soft water.

Probably a very broad statement to say the whole continent of Europe has hard water. But idk or actually care. I use what has worked for 100 years

Southern Europe has hard water in general, such as where i live here in Spain, the tap water is safe to drink but it doesn't taste great, but for example in the Nordic countries, such as where i am from ( Finland ) the tap water tastes like regular mineral water.

Probably also the reason Coolant concentrate is hard to get here, as you should really mix it with Distilled Water, i only know of a few places in my city that sell Concentrate of any kind, you can buy premix as low as 10/90 , 20/80, 30/70 ,40/60 and 50/50 anywhere though.

Far too many people believe they can use a super diluted coolant like 10/90 or straight water thinking that it rarely goes below freezing here in the middle of the Mediterranean...
