I’m currently also doing testing on it in a ls lq4. Will sample the second oci then I’ll run SS and sample the second time as well just for curiosity on how they’ll differ in this engine.Looks like a very good Amsoil product for older engines. Thanks for testing this. @himemsys
Is SS around the same price? Just curiousI’m currently also doing testing on it in a ls lq4. Will sample the second oci then I’ll run SS and sample the second time as well just for curiosity on how they’ll differ in this engine.
You’re welcome tho.
Yes. They are both very close. Is SS around the same price? Just curious
After your two Z-Rod ODI's are you planning to stay with 40 or 30 grade on the SS?Yes. They are both very close.
Look at the VOA oxidation value. It appears to have some SS DNAIs SS around the same price? Just curious
Is an oxidation value of 35 considered good? I never can get the numbers straight.
40. I’ve been running a 40 for the past 150k miles. After your two Z-Rod ODI's are you planning to stay with 40 or 30 grade on the SS?
Yes. Good bit of esters in there. Is an oxidation value of 35 considered good? I never can get the numbers straight.
Shop truck big LS has 174K on 0W20. Runs new but not beat.40. I’ve been running a 40 for the past 150k miles.
Yep J code 2015 GMCWhat year is it? Because if it calls for 0w20 it’s more than likely a LT motor which gm started in 2014. I haven’t heard of a LS calling for 0w20.
Can I ask what is the idea behind a 20 grade in a work truck? I take it from OP's comments that is the grade spec'd for that engine class?Shop truck big LS has 174K on 0W20. Runs new but not beat.
Does the Higher the Oxidation Value mean there are more Esters? Is the Oxidation Value something we should look at 1st in a VOA?Yes. Good bit of esters in there.
To my knowledge yes. And oxidation value is important to know regardless of the number to help be a key indicator in a uoa from the oil breaking down and oxidation thickening.Does the Higher the Oxidation Value mean there are more Esters? Is the Oxidation Value something we should look at 1st in a VOA?
Yes it is. Code J in the pick up truck are the L86 6.2 ecotec engine which is a LT platform engine. Not an LS. Everything about that engine is completely different from a LS platform. They are also spec to run a 0w20 viscosity. Can I ask what is the idea behind a 20 grade in a work truck? I take it from OP's comments that is the grade spec'd for that engine class?
Thank you for the explanation. I've not kept up with GM's oil requirements but I know they obviously favor MPG.Yes it is.
