I've been looking for "the best" oil meeting VW508.00 spec and have sent multiple samples for VOA. I thought this comparison between Motul Specific 508.00 0W20 and Amsoil European EZT 0W20 was interesting. The results are virtually identical considering the margin of error in sample processing. Looks like the two companies may be using the same additive package. The Amsoil sample is misidentified on the results. It is 0W20 Euro EZT. Both oils sent to Oil Analyzers on April 17, 2025.

After GM's debacle with the 6.2L engine, I've abandoned looking for 0W20 and going with 0W30 or higher meeting VW504 or VW502 specs.

Thanks for testing the two. Both of them almost look identical. Wouldn't you want to skip the 0w-30 & use a 0w-40 as GM has in their recall?

That's exactly what I've been debating. The 0W20 oil has a HTHS of 2.7. If I go with the Amsoil 0W30 European, its HTHS is 3.5 vs their 0W40's 3.7. Based on a very recent VOA of their 0W30 posted on this forum, it looks to be a pretty strong PAO/Ester blend. Can't say the same for their 0W40 or 5W40. It also appears the European 0W30 viscosity to be one of their more recent releases.

One vote for 0w30 Amsoil Euro
I use it in my VW and domestics..
One oil for all..mostly that is...

Thank you for your vote (so to speak). I'm seriously leaning in that direction. Having used Amsoil since 1976 and never having engine failure across cars, trucks, and motorcycles, I'm quite the fanboy.

m1 0w30 esp for $28 at walmart... I voted with my wallet.
I know! I had already bought 4 gallons of 0W20 ESP X2 to have on my shelf, but returned three of them after Lake's video related to the GM 6.2L recall. Had opened one for sample testing. Amsoil has a warehouse fairly close and delivery only takes one day.

I really am not seeing what is so special about these Euro grades, 0w20's in particular. If anything, they look below the performance level of Amsoil SS grade for grade. I know this gets a bit complicated due to how they're tested, but I can't imagine there is anything special in these blends that makes them any better. You could argue that a VOA isn't showing you something in them, but I'm skeptical. Noack is higher in the Euro line grade for grade than the SS line. The Euro oils have lower SA if that is a concern.

Interesting that the Amsoil EZT has an oxidation value of 7. I'd opt for the Mobil 1 X2 0w20 I think between the two.

I believe many WRC VW teams use Amsoil SS over the Euro option.

Since this is BITOG, the 0w30 Euro is cheaper than the SS flavors...
Put that in your UOA 😆 🤣

I'm not one to go against the manufacturer recommendations, but out of warranty in a Euro car I probably would.

Me either, but after Lake's video, I searched to see the oil spec in other countries using the exact same engine, and they call for 5W40. The US used to call for 5W40 for the EA888 until more stringent CAFE requirements kicked in. Overnight, it changed to 0W20.

The owner's manual doesn't even specify the oil viscosity. Instead, it says to look at the sticker under the hood..

I'd go up a grade as well - 5w30 most likely.

Obviously, I don't really have a clue, but I think the main difference between the SS and Euro oils has to do with SAPS... maybe? First I need to learn what that is.

You're right, its mostly SAPS and some of their grades have a higher HT/HS (Amsoil 5w30 SS 3.1 vs Euro 5w30 3.5).
