btw, regarding 5-10Wx30, sounds like it's fair to say that with different oils, the final product kv100 of 5Wx30 can be higher or lower than 10Wx30 ...

But that's not the case with kv40. Meaning kv40 of final 5Wx30 will always be lower than that of 10Wx30. Is that a correct assumption?

I'd say that's typical assuming we are talking about oils with the same KV100, as a 5W-xx will typically have a higher VI (though not always). If we aren't:

AMSOIL Signature Series 10w30:
KV40: 62.3cSt
KV100: 10.0cSt

AMSOIL XL 5w30:
KV40: 62.9cSt
KV100: 11.1cSt

AMSOIL OE 5w30:
KV40: 63.4cSt
KV100: 11.0cSt

Mobil 1 High Mileage 5w30:
KV40: 72.0cSt
KV100: 12.1cSt
