the 75w90 has viscosity index of 178. much higher than the other variants. so the 75w90 is synthetic, right?

btw kixx is korean, 50% owned by chevron

Depend on what you mean by syn. False syn yes, it's mainly G2+G3 good VI 178 and PP -43. Real true syn PAO+ no.

There is no "false" or "true" synthetics.
There are only synthetics by group.
You even referred to them by group, but then lowered the conversation by reverting back to the layman's wrongful interpretation.
Why folks here insist on having such a biased and tainted view is unbecoming of BITOG.
We should be helping the unwashed to raise the bar, not perpetuate the stereotypes of misunderstanding.

This is your opinion, for me and may be other your opinion is the wrongful interpretation. Are all syn even G1 or G2? yeah.. and totally different to other syn, so yes... and not.
Folks have personal and self opinion about what is syn or not or partially according to science and reallity.
Again it's your opinion, and from respect, even if you are staff member, you are not who to say as folks must refer to products which are absolutly different from production and specific characteristics.

A lot of times people get hung up on "synthetic" when that only means the material is synthesized. Hydrocracked Group III base is synthesized all day long. But, you could have a Group I or a Group II base that is also synthesized. GTL for example could possibly be a Group I or a Group III synthetic if they skip the hydrocracking.

no , note the 75w90 is not mentioned as high performance thermally stable.

My guess would be the 75w90 is thin and dosed with additives to reach those specs

but I would never use it.. (available on ali express btw)
if I ever considered this oil I would instead goto walmart and buy supertech.. and get a well known product.

Gear oils with VIs that high tend to be synthetic or semi-synthetic. The other grades are definitely not synthetic.

The 75W-90 has a much higher flashpoint than the others, despite using a thinner base oil. This would imply that it uses at least some synthetic base stock.
