This filter had a damaged thread and wasn’t able to be fully installed. Rust is from sitting open on my truck bed for a couple weeks. I’m using these with a Donaldson filter head and the blue 10GPM Harbor Freight to supply fuel to tractors and equipment out of a 50 gallon tank on my flatbed. It’s a custom built system because most regular transfer tanks wouldn’t work like I want.

Cut with a Cat filter cutter and the can was very hard. Also there was some kind of green adhesive holding the element to the actual cap. It was glued very good to the point I had to pry pretty hard with screwdrivers to separate them.

Though if you think about it the rust is on the dirty side and with an aluminum top plate and no bypass valve it should be staying put.

@Creekside you think that was fresh rust at the time? Regardless of my musings above I am not a fan of rust in my filters. I think I have one of these on the shelf. Came in a kit. And I am going to be using the 416-1225's that @sdowney717 mentioned. Should I cut open another 1R-0749 for the good of all and post it here?

I'm certain it was although I can't prove it. I left the filter laying out on my service truck bed for at least 2 weeks in the humid air and rain before I decided to cut it open and throw it away.
