We have a 1994 115 horse Johnson that runs perfect. We were given a couple of random engines of older years and I was curious what power heads would fit on this motor if we were to ever need a new powerhead. Basically, from what I've researched is the intake manifolds have to change to accommodate shift linkages. We were given several white motors from the '70s, along with what I believe is a 88 Johnson that's painted black and has an electric shift lower unit on it.
The reason for this question, the motor we currently have has hydraulic trim / tilt. I would like to keep that as all the other engines don't.
If anybody can shed some light on the generation years and the nitty gritty to what may need to be changed, I'd like to at least keep one power head. I'm assuming the only one that's even remotely close is the black Johnson with the electric shift. But I just don't know truly if it'll work.
