Did a search on BITOG and didn't see a thread with this video "Why Tesla developed the Cybertruck". Although the video is dated, I found the content to be very educational, not just direct about the Cybertruck, but about the challenges and opportunities in the design and manufacturing of motor vehicles in today's technology driven world. Fully acknowledge that like 99.9% of media, this video appears to be more to influence than inform.

I think many BITOGers will enjoy this video. Kindly ask if you are a hater of Tesla, please do not ruin this thread by violating BITOG terms of service. Plenty of websites outside of BITOG to "air your grievances"

I don't buy that theory. I believe Tesla build CT because it is stainless steel, and that is something that's similar type of SS that SpaceX use for their rockets. Using similar or same type of material helps reduce the cost and increase the economy of scale for SpaceX at the same time. It is a case of "we have a solution let's find a problem to solve" thing.

I have no idea why Tesla decided on the CT design.
Did you watch the full video? The video theories why Tesla built the CT the way they did.

Nobody likes change except a baby.

For over 30 years, I believed a full size pickup only need to be a regular cab. I only bought regular cab full sized pickups. I ended up buying a used Super Duty with a crew cab. Only then did I understand that crew cabs were worthy and added significantly to the utility of the truck.

I read
Is anyone else seeing Painted ones? Or maybe it's a wrap? There is a black one, green one and a pink one running around here .
Tesla briefly offered wraps as an option but has already discontinued this.

The weird thing is that rockets and vehicles have very different operating parameters. I've read as well that was due to experimentation with stainless steel.

I don't know or care how important the Renault Avantime and Velsatys, then the 7 series Bangle Butt and eventually the CT, were to automotive history in general and how amazing they were as cars otherwise.

They were/are all purposefully, provocatively, on purpose, ugly.
I don't mind ugliness and am as much compassionate towards any ugly duckling as the next guy (I liked the Nissan Cube, for Pete's sake :D), but ugliness on purpose - thanks but no thanks.

I will not go in details into what makes a vehicle good looking and what doesn't. It's like the human body - the good looking stuff has been established a while back, and what works and what doesn't are within even a kid's grasp. As the word goes - "I don't know what the definition is, but I will surely recognize it when I see it".

A joke's punch line, car design and physical beauty have that one thing in common - if they need to be explained - they failed.

It is that much more regrettable that the CT has amazing technological achievements, some of which on their own, taken separately, would have made endless news just a few years ago. But it had to be plagued with its looks.

If anything, it scares me. Putting together the company's production chronologically in a showroom is like looking into the company owner's mind throughout the years: Start with innovation, decent - if by moments irritating - characteristics, enjoy quirquiness and borderline genius, then watch it degenerate into pure darkness and drift away from everything human. Looking at a Tesla S nowadays is like watching one of his old interviews - a classic in the making, even if I used to find it (the Model S) bland back then. Looking at the CT - feels like looking at him now.

I have no idea why Tesla decided on the CT design. I see it as an Uber nieche vehicle. If Tesla would have developed a Tacoma-ish PU with decent range, it would sell like hotcakes, at least around here.
Tesla's designers are metrosexuals. They wanted the ultimate bar hopping truck.

Admittedly I did not, but I will.

sooooo slow learner?

Apparently it's because the "stainless" steel almost instantly develops patina and/or actual rust when exposed to the elements.

There are also plenty of places for Tesla fan boys to blow smoke up each other backside but you insist on doing on a motor oil forum.
Talk about the pot calling the kettle black.
