Vented Gas Cans Can Now Be Sold

I just buy the kits to refit my gas can, they sell that at Menards right next to the cans. Drill a hole for the vent, push in the vent, throw away just junk spout and swap to the good ones with a simple cap on them. Be nice if we could go back to not having to buy a $10 kit to make a gas can work properly again. EPA isn't going to stop me from having properly working gas cans with their nonsense orders.
have some old storage cans that I put an 1/8ā€ hole in + SST screw 😷
Soooo they still cannot just have a spout and snap on lid to pour the gas? Yep, love my VP's.
On the VP’s - just like the big mouth used with a Mr Funnel …

The story of how government regulation turned good, functional portable gas cans into these stupid, awkward Rube Goldberg contraptions should have everyone up in arms. And they are akin to electric vehicles in that they cause far more environmental damage with the uncontrolled spillage than they prevent. Politicians should adopt this issue. Good citizens should revolt on this issue… and I plan on switching to Jerry cans.

Make MFCs* legal again! If it's good enough for the military, it's good enough for us!

Very nice. The EPA cans were a complete scam.. The Obama era cans were allowed to be sold on the same shelf as the retro kits. I can’t think of any other time this has legally happened.
The only thing I found those to be any good for is for putting a squirt of gas in stuff with a tiny fuel tank like a chainsaw.

I have a collection of justrite and eagle metal cans, that I rotate trough with my lawn biz. I can't stand plastic jugs.

I know I’m in the minority but I prefer spouts like these spouts that let you invert the can without spilling. They still need to have a vent added but I like being able to get the can upside down and positioned before starting the flow. That’s especially true for my tractor where the tank opening is so high.

Did you guys read the news release in the link? It says that vented gas cans have been allowed since 2009 as long as they are automatically closing. It says the EPA reminded manufactures of this. That is all.

Or am I missing something?
Don't try to use facts dude. Nobody read the article.

IMO the worst feature of the new cans isn’t the spout, it’s the poor implementation of the spark arrestor screen. One of my plastic cans had a plastic ā€œscreenā€ that was so shallow that if you didn’t barely dribble the gas in it would deflect off the screen and spray all over you. Nice safety ā€œfeature!ā€ That can was essentially unusable until I chopped it out.

Vented gas cans ? Yeah, you unscrew the cap and it vents. If it ain't broke, don't fix it. Gimme a break. I can see myself going to a filling station to gas up my 5 gallon non vented cans. Fill them up. Drive off. Stop short. They fall over and spill gas in my car. Just peachy.
