Vent Radiator Caps

So what's the story about vented radiator caps?...the ones with the little red levers on the top that relieve pressure before opening. I just bought a truck ('93 F150) and it has the vented cap but from researching coolants, I found a thread about vented caps and how theyre #@$%!.

The thread didnt seem to clear on why vented caps suck but am wondering everyones opinion about them.

Should I ditch the cap?

Ya they don't work well. They add the vent so someone who doesn't know better will lift the vent, hear the hiss and back away.

For some reason they don't seal well.

I've had a couple over the years. They both worked as designed for a year or two, then they both leaked.

I used one on my 01 TJ for years and it works great!
