I see no info listed on Our Mate besides it stating it's "Marmite branded for sale in Australia."

Since the LD50 is 50g for Vegemite, salt is the least of your worries.

I have worries? Since I eat no more than maybe a 3/4 teaspoon V-mite every other day it's no problem anyway. I don't know about crinkles. He sounds like he eats half a jar every day.

Now, who can tell Vegemite apart from Marmite? As you can see, they are very different.

.....last time I had Marmite (20+ years ago) it was pure salt, and not a good salt at that. You have me wanting to at least taste the stuff again....but sheesh, what to do with the rest of the jar??

My better half walked by, saw the pictures and promptly said, "Why are you looking at stool samples?"

lets just say I wish I held stock in vegemite...

and yeah marmite is the shiny, gluggy one, vegemite is more "matte" textured, and better.

Those pics make them look like grease.

When I first posted those pictures a couple years ago I was hoping people would guess that stuff to be grease or sludge.

Vegemite was popular in Germany in the '80s. There was another fermented yeast spread, but I can't remember the name. We also had the kind of veggie spreads that you can find at Cost Plus.
