Which one of these dino oils would people prefer and why? I think for the price Havoline is the winner.

Best bang for your buck IMO would be Chevron supreme. Although the havoline comes from the same corporate ladder. Dan

Havoline rocks. Valvoline is thought to have a pretty lame add pack, though the UOA's tend to look decent.

Havoline seems second to none in the UOA's in these pages, easily besting even the most expensive syntheics. Sounds strange, but that's the trend.

I picked up a 5 quart jug of Havoline 10W40 at Wally's last night for 6.42, which comes to around 1.28 per quart. It was the SL version, so I wonder how much Havoline will bump the price up for the SM stuff...

I think the Havoline brand will be easier to find than the Chevron Supreme, but as the other member mentions above it's the same oil.

At my local costco they have penzoil and chevron in 12/qt cases, $13 for chevron and $20 for penzoil. Somebody has to pay for all those TV ads. Dan

I wonder 2 things: How much does Shell spend per Quart in advertising, and which brand does Costco sell more of?

I have already admitted on another thread that I am a sucker for continuing to pay an arm and a leg for Pennzoil. I would change now, but I am afraid that before long Wally's could drop the Havoline and I would end up paying more for it elsewhere that I could buy Pennzoil for. I am a fanatic about picking something good and sticking it. I am not about to switch to ''whatever Wally's has cheap today''. Besides, I switched to Quaker State for a while once and ended up with an engine full of sludge. Didn't know about Auto RX then.

My choice of the three would be Havoline. I'd take Chevron Supreme over Havoline as it is cheaper, but it is not readily available in the Northeast.

Seems so far havoline would be the best choice, which is kind of what I expected. Keep the comments coming.

Havoline around me seems to have very good distribution. They're in drugstores, Family Dollar stores (though rarely $1), Walmarts, etc. Also auto parts stores but usually for more money. Since Chevron Supreme disappeared from my Walmart I bet Havoline is going to hang tough.

When I first started driving, and I saw Havoline in dollar stores, I thought it was a generic knock-off of Valvoline trying to cash in with a similar sounding name. I wouldn't buy it because "mechanics who know..."

Kendall and Motorcraft are both made by Conoco. A credible statement on this board said they were not identical but very close.
