Various Mobil 1 formulas tested in HPL’s lab! Motor Oil Geek LSJr video

I made it maybe 30-40% and shut it down. On speed-up even.

Content LOOKS great. He speaks truth as I know it about Amsoil and Mobil1

He is wasting a bunch of time on each machine and then his voice gave me a splitting headache. I LOVE the guy, love and sub to his channel. Put something about the tonal quality, it's just me. OUCH!!

What were the results?
i think that video length and monetization have something to do with it. In other words it has to be of a certain length, fillers or no fillers

The monetization process requires 1K subscribers and 3000 public watch hours in a 365 rolling period to get started. I have no idea what is past that b/c I haven't gotten that far yet :ROFLMAO:. I've been on YT for several years and my channel is over 1K subs but I'm struggling to get the watch hours b/c my videos are 1) niche and 2) short. So yeah, there isn't much motivation to spend all that time he does filming and producing these if he isn't getting paid back and to do that you want it to be more than a 3 min quick/dirty. Many BITOGers are insufferable on this topic it seems.

This is a 19 min video without much fluff presenting data far exceeding the average pictures of dipsticks/fill holes and UOAs presented and argued about ad-nauseum here. I'm sure those struggling with watching this will spend 2-3x that a day reading pages of back/forth here/replying. I guess b/c you don't have to listen to it being read is why you are good with that vs. watching his 19 min video that has some great info/data? I watched it having my coffee this morning.

I always appreciate these in-depth lab type videos. Whether it's Engineering Explained at XOM or Lake at HPL etc. or Valvoline. It's significantly better than Project Farmer and other videos. I like seeing how these oils do on some of these bench tests.

Me too. In this case look how many VOA’s we can argue about now at no cost to BITOG members😂

His voice and facial expressions are very similar to Scotty Kilmer's. Maybe that has something to do with it.

I did the same this morning with coffee. Definitely got more valuable information per minute on the video than here.

"Chicken or the egg" It doesn't matter for choosing oil. But it does make me curious if the marketing informs the blending or the other way around. Basically are the slight deviations in the Mobil 1 product line because they were approached by marketing to offer something for "truck and SUV." Or did those doing testing come up with a blend that was better for heavy use, then the marketers labeled it as "truck and SUV."

Good post

Thanks for recognizing that I didn't say I hate the guy. You are correct, reading is a bit easier for me in someways. Repetitious videos - topics I get fidgety. The information after around 10 minutes is outstanding frankly.

Could be.

The overarching theme I hear in my Amsoil centric world on BITOG and other sources used to be all the oils are the same, or similar. I think, frankly Amsoil has done a decent job at differentiating the tiers - even though it does confuse some people. I would love LSJr to do the same with Amsoil!!

May God have mercy on your soul....just VW stuff mainly as an easier way to share/help people in FB groups/other forums was the main reason vs. re-typing things over and over. And if I eventually get a few cents a month b/c my crappy little channel is monetized well good on me for as much of my personal time I've that I've spent to help others.

I think for all the conjecture on BITOG, and the back and forth on subjects like "the best oil"............LSJR is someone who actually studies how lubricants effect machinery, for a living, and yet he gets so much flak and hate on BITOG.

If chopped up cat fur, toe fungus and hair gel, created the "best oil" for a machine, I assume we all would want to know. I am sure that most here could not care less about what ingredients are in their machine lube, the effects, "where the metal meets the meat", is what we all care about.

Yes the guy talks weird with overly used facial expressions, and it is a bit sensational to a point of annoyance. But the info is good to know. He is a nerd.

I just dont get it the flak he gets.

I am not sure if he is in Concord, NC or Mooreville, (the birth place of Nascar), which is like 30 minutes from my front door.....but he definitely has the resources and engine builders\dyno labs around here to get better data than nearly anyone on the planet.

I think it is cool. I thought up starting a YT channel, but the genre of guns is a bit overbooked. I dont know much about anything else than guns and plumbing, so there is that.

The other option is something that would not be viable to share on BITOG, a bit to political.

Good luck to you.

There are a bunch of members here on BITOG, and it does not cost anything to subscribe to your channel, not sure why the BITOG community just does "hit that button".

Would have been nice to see 0w-40 ESP x4 but you can still find x3 out there. Autozone carries both and iirc it qualifies for the $40 5 quart + filter deal.

I wish I was tuned into oxidation testing when I ran that basic Mobil 1 5w-20 twice in my Mustang, one was SN+ the other SP, for 10k miles and and it came back looking fine but I don’t know how much it oxidized.
Great deal!

I’m not familiar with the differences between the x4 vs x3? Is the x3 being discontinued?

Are you and old hat from the Geo / Suzuki forums?

Guns and plumbing....combine for something interesting! Fix a pipe, shoot some guns! I watch several gun YT channels, I like hickock45 but yes, saturated for sure. I will feel accomplished when I finally hit the magic watch hours number, should happen next year I anticipate...I can't wait to cash those $2.67/mos checks ;). I wish I could do more geology-related content...drilling, exploration, etc. but as an indy consultant, really can't/shouldn't post stuff publically without my client's consent and honestly, better to keep all of that private even though I really get to see/do some neat things in my line of work! An oil video is in the works...
