I have a 17 Silverado (62k) and 17 Tahoe (78k), both with 5.3/6L80 and in mechanically sound condition.
Looking at DEX VI ATF recommendations. I can easily source Valvoline synthetic Dex VI for $26-$30/gal.
A little history.... Silverado has the upgraded GM TBV and Tahoe getting the Superior Solutions TBV kit installed this weekend. Silverado had trans filter replaced, magnet inspected (no metal shavings) and fluid flushed out by dealer under warranty around 30k miles, while the Tahoe received a basic pan drop filter/fluid change around 70k miles (no metal shavings on magnet). Silverado occasionally tows a 6000lb travel trailer.
I plan on buying off Amazon a fluid extractor with both the manual and pneumatic pump so I can easily change out the fluids in our vehicles. Both the Silverado and Tahoe will first get another pan drop so I can change the filter, inspect for metal shavings, and then add another magnet or 2 to the pan.
Then I plan on either performing multiple drain/refills with fluid extractor or by disconnecting a cooler line to drain.
I am looking for anyone's experience/preference regarding the brand of Dex VI they used in their 6L80 and if anyone has used Valvoline syn Dex VI in the blue jugs.
Eventually I want to upgrade the torque converters to heavy duty billet units on both the Silverado and Tahoe because I like keeping vehicles that are paid off
Thank you for your input and suggestions !!
