Valvoline Restore and Protect

I'm sure this has been discussed before, but I don't feel like searching through 200 pages of this thread or starting a new one.

But we keep talking about engine benefits from Valvoline Restore and Protect. Has anyone noticed any benefits to their turbos, since they typically pull engine oil to lubricate them? I don't know if anyone opened one up, or noticed a possible bearing issue that got better after Valvoline Restore and Protect.

I just got my report back from blackstone today. 3rd interval of Valvoline Restore and Protect 5w20 @ 140k. Valvoline Restore and Protect fixed potentially my very slight growing fuel dilution issue.

Unfortunately you won’t know about your fuel dilution because you used Blackstone.

Continues to baffle me why people use them. Pay more and get less.

I don't think the engine is especially dirty because I do know the history of the truck before I bought it. A friend of mine had it for its first 100k miles and he is pretty diligent about maintenance.

I think I may just stick with Valvoline Restore and Protect for the life of the vehicle going forward. But if not I certainly am going to do 4 or 5 oil changes with it before I switch to a normal synthetic oil.

Google says the ideal interval depends on your specific driving conditions per the owners manual:

• Normal Conditions: 7,500 to 10,000 miles
• Severe Conditions: 5,000 miles. This includes frequent towing, heavy idling (like job sites or heavy city traffic), or driving in extremely dusty/harsh weather.

Wear rubber gloves. Valvoline Restore and Protect comes with a warning that it can potentially cause reproductive harm. It doesn't say what reproductive harm, but you don't want to find out through experience.

I think that warning is on all oils as dirty oil is carcinogenic.

Yes, yes. I was joking about unspecified reproductive harm and not wanting to be the guy who finds out what the unspecified harm is. No need for anyone else to tell me about ubiquitous Cali and EPA warning labels, thank you.

The launch of this was the main thing holding me back from hoarding Valvoline Restore and Protect 5w30 due to current events. I thought it seemed unlikely that they’d launch it this year given the circumstances, so I relented and stocked up on the 5W-30. Easily a year’s worth for both Broncos.

But there's practically no stock of 5w30, at least around me.

Valvoline Restore and Protect works slowly . You may notice the dipstick is cleaner after one OCI but most all other cleaning accomplished after multiple Valvoline Restore and Protect oil changes . After one OCI the oil filter will not yield much either as again Valvoline Restore and Protect works slowly so as to not over load the oil filter in a dirty engine.

Polaris, Oil Analyzers, and Wearcheck. You can buy Wearcheck through HPL and Oil Analyzers through AMSOIL. You can contact @Pablo for preferred pricing on AMSOIL kits. They offer fuel dilution with gas chromatography which is accurate, and their reports are more accurate in general.

FYI, I bough three 5-qt jugs of Valvoline Extended protection 5W-30 from Amazon back in April. All 3 jugs were date code Feb 15, 2026. I noticed the jugs had ILSAC GF-6A and API SP, even though the GF-7A/SQ version was suppose to be out way before these jugs were made - the Valvoline Spec Sheet dated 10/31/2025 shows it to be GF-7A/SQ.

I contacted Valvoline through their site and asked why these jugs were still labeled GF-6A/SP, and their reply (below) was that the oil in those jugs will also meet GF-7A/SQ. So they are using up old oil jugs.

BTW - The Valvoline Restore and Protect 5W-30 spec sheet dated 8/19/2025 shows it to be GF-7A/SQ.

Is there any info on what approvals the 5W-40 will have or will they approach this as they have with Dexos in the lower viscosities and skip them? We still don’t know why that was, do we? Speculation is they didn’t want to disclose the formula or it couldn’t meet some other part of Dexos requirements allegedly (Noack?). Do Euro approvals require similar formula disclosures? Google seems to say yes.

Dexos requires ingredient disclosure, so Valvoline Restore and Protect will never have a Dexos cert (like Pennzoil Ultra Platinum will never have one).

There are no OEM approvals yet. Only "recommended for." Here's the PDS.
