Here is my 2 cents so far with the only vehicle that i have Valvoline Restore and Protect 5w30 in the sump.
I have owned my 2003 Suburban for about 30,000 miles (it has nearly 300K miles on the odometer). It only gets used about 3000 miles per year and is not my daily driver.. only to pull a trailer or when road conditions are snowy and icy.. or to pick up farm supplies. Sometimes i drive it to work but not often.
In the time i have owned it i have probably changed the oil 10 times.. with all of the BITOG favorites of the times and all of the BITOG favorite filters.
Since owning it- It has had a lifter tick at startup.. nothing has ever changed it. As far as i read its common and that one either needs to put new lifters in it..or an oil pump or an o-ring or variations of that.. but other than that its just something that i need to get used to.
I have read in various forums and social media groups that some guys think that varnish buildup on the lifters are the cause.
I am about 1000 miles into this Valvoline Restore and Protect..and the lifter tick is all but gone. I am used to this vehicle and how it has always sounded. It is not the same. Not even close.
I have never used any engine flushes or anything but the top oils like Mobil 1, Valvoline, Pennzoil etc.. and always the top oil filters of the times.
Other than the sound of the lifter tick going almost away i cant report any other benefits that i am aware of.. nor do i expect miracles.. as it has always ran great and always probably will consume alot of gas.
