2 oci’s of restore and protect 5w-30 truck consumed it faster than 10w-30 and 15w-40
It didn’t help anything but was worth ****

It's not magic. It apparently cleans well enough to help many engines stop burning oil ostensibly by freeing up stuck oil control rings. If cleaning wouldn't help mitigate a different problem causing oil-burning, of course it didn't help.2 oci’s of restore and protect 5w-30 truck consumed it faster than 10w-30 and 15w-40

I didn’t even start noticing a difference until my 3rd oci. Highly recommend doing the 4 full oci’s.2 oci’s of restore and protect 5w-30 truck consumed it faster than 10w-30 and 15w-40

There have been multiple reports of increased oil burning with Valvoline Restore and Protect to start and then it settles down and improves.2 oci’s of restore and protect 5w-30 truck consumed it faster than 10w-30 and 15w-40

And then would it be Valvoline Restore and Protect for life or could it be something else?Would not do fewer than 4 OCIs before making a decision.
Completely normal. The 5W-30 lower viscosity than the other two oils.2 oci’s of restore and protect 5w-30 truck consumed it faster than 10w-30 and 15w-40
Yeah I think if you haven’t had a reduction in 4 OCIs I might do another for good measure while you simultaneously look at other causes. Scored cylinders or valve stem seals. And then would it be Valvoline Restore and Protect for life or could it be something else?
No one said it’s magic. It just didn’t work and consumption was far greater. It's not magic. Quit a few people using Valvoline Restore and Protect report some increased oil consumption in the beginning, then it turns around after running for more OCIs. Could be the oil control rings lose some effectiveness as they clean up, then regain performance after getting past a certain level of cleaning. Hard to say why, but that's one theory. If your engine is burning oil for some reason other than low performing piston rings, then no oil or engine cleaner is going to help.No one said it’s magic. It just didn’t work and consumption was far greater.
"It just didn't work" yetNo one said it’s magic. It just didn’t work and consumption was far greater.
So what happens if after 4-5 ocis and oil consumption doesn’t taper off?"It just didn't work" yet
You haven't used it for long enough yet to say. Valvoline says minimum of 4 OCIs. Glenda didn't see anything after her third OCI. She almost gave up too. She was up to 3 quarts every 5000 miles I believe.
Go back to a higher viscosity. There are many factors beyond ring sticking that can lead to oil consumption. So what happens if after 4-5 ocis and oil consumption doesn’t taper off?
So I should continue using my 10w-30? If consumption doesn’t stop. I doubt restore and protect will help a 24 year old 3.9 dodge v6Go back to a higher viscosity. There are many factors beyond ring sticking that can lead to oil consumption.
I would yeah. Or even a 5w40?So I should continue using my 10w-30? If consumption doesn’t stop. I doubt restore and protect will help a 24 year old 3.9 dodge v6
You need to make sure the oil you choose has extended drain plug thread protection.I've progressed to the 0 mile and/or 1 day OCI. So far this year, I've done zero miles and changed my oil 5 times.
I’ve got 2 jugs of restore and protect left. Will do oil change soon via fluid extractorI would yeah. Or even a 5w40?
Or 5W-40 with a dose of HPL Engine Cleaner 40 …I would yeah. Or even a 5w40?
Then you have effectively ruled out piston ring deposits being the cause. But Valvoline recommends 4 OCIs minimum, so I'd do that at least, and that recommendation is corroborated by reports here.So what happens if after 4-5 ocis and oil consumption doesn’t taper off?
