Valvoline Restore and Protect ATF

Well, that was quick.

thank you for contacting Valvoline Product Support,

Valvoline Restore and Protect ATF does contain seal conditioning agents, but not at the elevated level as the Maxlife Multi-Vehicle ATF contains.

Valvoline Restore and Protect ATF may reduce minor shudder and improve shift quality if degraded fluid or clogged torque converter clutch plates are the cause. However, it cannot repair mechanical damage or severely worn internal components. If symptoms persist after fresh fluid, seek professional diagnosis.

Valvoline Restore and Protect ATF is a beyond premium multi-vehicle ATF designed to extend torque converter ASD (anti-shudder durability) life by clearing up plugged material in friction plates, thereby keeping friction plates like “new” for longer performance and enhanced wear protection of transmission parts.

Maxlife ATF/CVTF is a multi-vehicle ATF designed for a wide variety of vehicles with a greater focus on seal protection especially for high-mileage vehicles. It is also formulated to provide high friction control and wear protection for CVT transmissions.

Thank you and have a great day.

😢
I pulled out some ATF to replace with Max life, instead of doing a full drain and fill. And this is what came out. Not sure if my last drain and fill with some Valvoline Restore and Protect is cleaning up some gunk, or if my atf is burning due to the slippage. Doesn't smell burnt. But I'm not an expert on what burnt atf should smell like.

I guess I'll do another drain and fill at my next oil change. In the mean time I slightly overfill with Max life and hopefully that helps my slippage.

Looks like it's cleaning to me. Is the slipping better/worse?
Only removed about 8-9 oz, and added in about 12-13oz. Will have to report back in a few days, as I have to really let it cool down all the way, as the slippage appears to be only while the transmission is still warming up. It's like the transmission shifts, the RPMs drop a little, then it drops again as it finally settles into gear. Shifts perfect once it's hot.

If the slip has improved, will probably wait a couple months till my next oil change to drain and fill. Otherwise may do it sooner given how dark it is. Does make me nervous with how dark it looks, though I didn't see any metallic fragments. Also with the it being a little overfilled, makes me nervous too. But as far as I can tell the over fill doesn't hurt anything. Not sure how much buffer the dipstick gives.

I suspect the level may be a bigger contributing factor here than you think - the fluid is fully expanded once at operating temp. Maybe you are still off the proper level?
That's what I've been wondering, but it is now a good bit over the top of the "MAX" line on the dipstick. Not sure if I should keep filling till everything resolves, and if it gets worse, then suck some fluid out. I've heard overfilling can cause serious damage, but again, how much buffer do I have? Capacity is supposed to be 9qts, and at this point I've put in a little over 5.5 since my last drain.

I would not add more than the high mark on the dipstick on level ground of course.

Mine got delivered today as well.

It's going to go into my 4L80-E Jag XJ12 on Friday along with a new filter. It's been a hair slow to go into reverse on occasion, I think it's varnish on one of the valve body check balls... We'll see if this changes anything. It's never been serviced before (as far as I know) and is at 120k miles. I'll post an update after I put a couple hundred miles on it.
Did you install it yet and has it helped your reverse? I just put it in a BMW X3 with GM GA6L45R, 6-speed automatic. I've only driven a little over 200 miles and the gear changes are already smoother. The 5-6 shift is usually unnoticeable with seeing the tac. The initial shift into drive and reverse are far less perceptible. There's no slippage, it's very firmly in gear. It just doesn't kick like it did at 129k miles when I put it in.

Thinking about using this in my 2011 elantra. I don't see anything stating sp4 compatability on the bottle, but the specs make it look like maxlife. I'm assuming it's the same base fluid but with different friction modifiers and cleaning additives.

It’s a weird url but is linked directly from the Valvoline website, under Product Information Sheets on this page:

Sheet does list Hyundai SP-IV
