I suppose this is directed more towards Valvoline conventional or Nextgen users. Does anyone use this stuff exclusivly in their vehicles, and do you see any varnish build up under your valve covers over time? Reason I ask is about a year ago, I helped my buddy tear apart the 3.8 in his mom's 05 Dodge Caravan. It had been run exclusively on Valvoline Synpower, changed every 5,000-7,000miles. It had probably 130,000miles on it at the time, and it seemed to have quite a bit of varnish build up through out the whole engine. Reason for the tear down was it had a bit of a tapping noise and it wound up being a rod bearing just starting to spin. Crank and rod were ok so we just put a new set of rods and mains in it. He thinks this was caused when it had an injector stick open shortly after the warranty ran out and it flooded the engine with gas. It ran fine up until the point the noise started, so were thinking the excessive gas in the crank case just got the ball rolling. Anyways, reason I'm asking is I've been using Pennzoil conventional on the first few OCI's in my Scion and I'm quite happy with it, but I've seen very good used oil analysis with Valvoline conventional and Nextgen and I just have Nextgen stuck in the back of my mind...just want to give something different a shot. But varnish bugs me. I know it really doesn't hurt anything, its just this ocd thing I have
I'm thinking maybe the varnish we saw in his mom's engine was a result of maybe poorly maintained pcv system, or maybe she lets it idle a lot, I don't know. I've heard some peopel report that their engines look nice and clean on Valvoline conventional, but I thought I'd try and get a better idea from people on here that use it.
