Valvoline NextGen 5W20 oil burn?

I am surprised with the result of using NextGen 5W20 on a 2005 Ford Five Hundred with the good old Duratec V6 and 6-speed auto, which spends most of its time on a highway. The sump capacity is 6 quarts. The car burned nearly a quart every 2,000 miles. I was going to use the oil until 5,000 miles which seems like a good OCI for a conventional oil, but then saw just how low oil level is and decided to change it. NextGen 5W20 went in again, together with one quart of Valvoline MaxLife 5W30. The car used to run on G-Oil 5W30, NextGen Maxlife 5W30, and various conventional bulk oils with no issues (whatever you get with a coupon in chain shops, I assume 5W30 or 10W30).

I have been using Valvoline NextGen 5W30, Maxlife NextGen 5W30, and Maxlife NextGen 5W20 with no issues.

My crown vic did the same thing on valvoline synpower. fine on motorcraft , mobil 1, and quaker state ud.

Maybe your engine is telling you its time for a change away from your favorite oils.

NextGen and MaxLife are both Valvoline. I bet it has more to do with dropping from a 5/10W-30 to a 5W-20.

Could be, but he also said he was using MaxLife and G-Oil before.

This could be the most likely cause. Although, I used to run Maxlife 5W20 in another car with similar engine with no issues. I have 10 more quarts of NextGen5W20. It would be interesting if this burn continued.
