Valvoline, no more easy pour spout

Beside the easy pour spout they did away with the clear screw top cap which you could see the tamper proof pull away foil seal. That was the best setup to check if the jug had been opened before.
Fully agree. The spout is light years ahead of most jug designs and being able to readily see the seal was another perk. From my perspective (loss of features not withstanding), they have priced themselves out of the market with $30+ pricing per jug.

Though it may be listed as "extended protection" it is still a 5K oil in my Wrangler. The TBN is about 0.70 points above RGT at 5K miles--e.g. an average of 3.26 instead of 2.58.

I have two runs of VEP left and will start looking for a new oil--perhaps Mobil ESP 0W-30 is in my future.

I’m old and my opinion only: First indications of shedding production costs by Aramco. All the while the retail price climbed. My uninformed and ignorant perception is there will be a lessening of product quality. I reckon I’ll look for a replacement. Sounds like Supertech and/or Kirkland are as strong contenders as any. Being semiretired now I can save a few bucks…

Are they owned by Aramco now? Yikes

It’s extended protection, not extended performance or long drain oil. Valvoline never marketed or advertised it as such either.

For off the shelf readily available oils everywhere, they pretty much are. What other mainstream readily available oil brand/product would you think was higher?
The branded oils are all about the same. The easy pour jug was a differentiating feature of the Valvoline products that made them more worthwhile.

You have a good point there. But... are we ranking based on what? I would venture to say Valvoline or Pennzoil and Castrol are equal to the Mobil brand. I supposed we could use additives and UOA's... VOA's... ?? I guess my point is related to Mobil being "HOW much better"?

I mean, you’re the one saying that everyone is comparing oils to Mobil 1 in a negative connotation as if there are better oils to compare to. I’m merely asking you for your opinion on what other oil people should compare to if not Mobil 1.

Just bought 2 jugs of 0W-20 EP from Walmart online for $28.32 each. After rebate $23.32, not bad.

I've read lots of opinions on this board about how users have left the Mobil bandwagon and jumped onto another. IMHO.. I don't think Mobil has a patent on oil formulation.

They do however have the predominant marketing position. And that's the "Why" of why do people compare it. I'd put Valvoline or Pennzoil on the same tier. There is no single oil. Throw a dart.

I see.
