A comparison of the VOA's of the 2. You can see how close they really are. Maxlife meets MB 236.17. Use them interchangeably. I did

Thank you for the voa's. Even castrol transmax lists 236.17 and it's a 7.1 cst fluid but of course the correct 4cst stuff is likely around 100 cst when it's 0c and the transmission works fine.

You might want to redact your personal information. That said, ever since Maxlife has been reformulated to be both ATF & CVT compatible, I wouldn't personally feel comfortable using it. I'm not saying it's bad, where I work that's what we sell like 99% of the time to DIYers and shops alike, but if it was a vehicle I cared about, I'd look for something else. Just my opinion, I've never actually had anyone I know have issues with it, it's just my personal take on it.

I got it in my '23 Frontier for past ~5k miles. Been shifting great. If it's suitable for the MB 236.17 spec, it works. Fyi, I did it at Midas where their system lists it as compatible. Also, did it as a flush. No pan or filter replacement @ 30k miles

Just curious what Midas did. Was it a fluid exchange using the ATF cooler lines? Did they have the tool kit and know how to check proper level after?

My daughter has about 55k miles on her 2022 Frontier with the Jatco copy of the MB 9G tronic transmission. If I ever get around to a fluid/pan change on it, Maxlife would likely be my choice as well.

Looking at that, some could reasonably believe that Matic-P is simply Maxlife ATF. There can always be variations in composition that are harmless along with allowable ranges of a component.

Yes, Midas did a Flush via the radiator lines. Their database said 10 qts (if I recall correctly). Cost was $279 + shop supplies etc. Brought total to just over $300, for which I used a $50 off coupon.
Just for compare. Dealer service was just over $500. They do not remove pan and filters. And none of their service options included that. But they would use the Matic-P. So it would be twice as much. But not all the fluid would be replaced. It was a drain and fill from the drain/fill plug. They would replace only 5 to 6 qts.

I realize this is an old thread, Steve hows that Frontier holding up?

I need to do an atf change in 2024 titan and some what hesitant to use Valvoline MaxLife.

I'll vouch for Valvoline MaxLife ATF as I've used it for decades in countless vehicles and never had any issues. Very good product and trustworthy company. I'd skip Valvoline MaxLife and use Valvoline Restore and Protect ATF if I could get it (not in Canada yet).

The most important thing to a modern transmission is fluid temperature and cleanliness. Make sure to drop the pan and clean the magnets as they do most of the filtering and loose effectiveness as they load up. Add extras while you're in there if you can.

I was more worried about it not having Matic p rating on a label.

Just looked over the Valvoline PDS for Valvoline MaxLife vs Valvoline Restore and Protect ATF.

Valvoline MaxLife ATF lists these Nissan specs:
Matic Fluid C,D,J,K,S,W
N-CVT
NS-1,2,2V,3

... whereas Restore & Protect ATF lists these Nissan specs:
Fluid A
Matic Fluid C,D,J,K,P,R,S,W
N402

Viscosity looks almost identical, so I would expect the

I would contact Valvoline and see if they can provide details or see if you can find the Valvoline Restore and Protect ATF.

How did you find that Valvoline Restore and Protect was P rated?

And thank you!

Are you out of warranty with your 2024 Titan? Nissan Matic-P is a greenish fluid. For warranty purposes, I'd avoid having a red ATF in this Jatco copy of a MB 9G-Tronic. If you're out of warranty, I'd have no issue using Maxlife or any other suitable for Matic-P use. There's been a few members over at a Frontier board I frequent who have used Maxlife ATF in their 9spd equipped Frontier. No problems.
